Catching Up and the Piggery Cafe

It has been a very busy week, again. I know I must say that every week, but this week has been very busy with One on One’s. It is funny how you can get a run of them. It is also very nice.

This latest issue hasn’t quite had the success that others have had. I really need to learn about marketing and working out how to get people to commit to buying it. I’ve made myself decide to stick with it at least until the end of next year, but may have to reassess that. It has been a good experience doing it, but I can’t keep doing things for nothing. I do want to thank everyone who has purchased it. It has meant a lot to me.

If you want to purchase it, then please go to the Shop at the top of this page.

Not much to report, except I’m leaving next week. While I’m away I will post about the trip, small things really. I don’t know how much time I will have at this stage, but will do what I can. There won’t be any Monochrome Madness while I’m away, but it will just be for one week.

Learning from Me

As I said at the start I’ve been getting lots of inquiries for One on One Photography Sessions, which has been fantastic. Though another thing I’ve been noticing is that many people on Instagram have been commenting on my editing. When I was out with a client the other day he suggested that I should teach photo editing. I’ve been trying to do that for a while, but don’t seem to be able to find people who want to learn how to edit photos with my Skype sessions. Then he suggested I put a course together and sell it.

It is an interesting idea. I thought maybe from the point of view of fine art editing, or how to give your images that fine art touch. I could do some video tutorials and then add some reference notes, maybe give away some images for editing purposes. Perhaps a beginners guide. I have the software to do the videos, so it could be worth a go. Then all I need to do is find my audience. Instagram could be good for that.

To try out the idea I did a video of my processing and then sped it up, so you can sort of see what is happening. I’ve had it all over social media, so thought I may as well let you see it too.

Photos from the Piggery Cafe

I’ve done something a little different this time. I often take photos like this, but wouldn’t normally show them on their own.

I love Masterchef Australia and I think Shannon Bennett is amazing. I’ve never tried his food, mind you. His restaurant in the Rialto Tower sounds incredible, but out of my price range. I would love to go up there and take photos, however. He now has a place in the Dandenongs, in a town called Sherbrooke. He has purchased the old Burnham Beeches mansion and plans to renovate it. It is a beautiful old art deco building that needs a lot of TLC. I sent an email to see if I could take photos of it, but never heard anything back, which a little disappointing.

I’m digressing, really we went to the cafe near the mansion, it is called the Piggery Café. I don’t know if they have made it from the old piggery that was there or not, though it does have that feel, but definitely not the smell. It was rather quaint and they didn’t seem to mind me taking photos, so I did. Here is a selection for you.

  1. Hey Leanne … Just love these images! The pig with wings is a classic. Gosh I nearly fell off my chair when I read Burnham Beeches. I did a modelling job there years ago and haven’t thought about it until I read your post. Oh what a shame that they didn’t respond to you – it would be the best place to photograph!! Tassie … bet you are excited. How wonderful for you. Love the idea of the editing course, I would certainly be interested. 😀 Time for me to annoy you with another email. And yes, you are always busy – I have no idea how you do it!

    1. Thank you Julie, I loved the pigs too. Wow, I didn’t know you used to be a model, how glamorous, you will have to tell me about it the next time I see you It would be great, but not much chance now I think. I am working on some ideas for the course, not sure when I will be able to do it, but I’m planning on starting at a beginners level.

  2. I loved the video. From the perspective of learning to do it, it seems overwhelming. Even if I knew HOW to do it, I do not have the eye for knowing what to change even if I knew how to do it. Watching the areas you highlighted totally blew me out of the water. You have incredible talent. When you finish, it looks like something on a magazine. Incredible. I love the pig, by the way. Too cute! 🙂

    1. Thank you Marsha, I think it would be too overwhelming for many if I did it exactly how I do images, if I do a course it will be more with beginner in mind. Small things you can do to improve your images. I think it is very cute too. 😉

    2. It would be. The fast forward version is fun to watch. I saw the same thing done with fixing artichokes, and it makes interesting viewing. I’m sure your editing took hours, and no one has time to watch the entire sequence, let alone the skill to do them. I have benefitted in just the simple composition tips you taught me like the rule of thirds. 🙂 I’m just glad we became friends. 🙂

    3. It is fun, but that is all. It doesn’t take too long these days, I am getting faster at doing it now. Thank you Marsha, and so am I.

  3. The editing you do to your photos is intriguing – that dark foreboding look. I would be interested in a video showing the various steps you go through. I know there are many local adjustments which you make and I would be interested in the thought processes that guide your workflow.

    1. thanks Derek, if I do it, it will be a whole course, I think, rather than individual videos, but that could change. Will definitely cover workflow and thoughts.

  4. Nice photos Leanne. It makes me want to go there, so they might be very glad they let you take the photos and do a little promotion for them!

  5. I think doing editing lessons the way you have suggested would be great ..
