Catching up and looking at Instagram

It has been a funny old week, I’ve had another article published, but I’ve also been waiting for tradesman to contact me about work that we need done to our house. The problem with owning houses is you have to pay for things when they break, unfortunately. We have let some things go for too long and now they are going to cost a fortune to fix. It has been a big lesson for us. So in between all that I’ve been trying to get some work done.

Review of the Nikon D500

My review for Nikon’s latest camera, the D500, has been published on Digital Photography School. If you would like to read the review click on the following title.

Review of the New Flagship DX Camera – The Nikon D500

It is a brilliant camera and I hope my review reflects that.

Learning Long Exposure Photography

I’m getting some new gear which is going to mean I will have enough holders and filters to really be able to teach people long exposure photography.

As an introduction I am going to offer a 2 hour session for $200 for people who want to learn how to do long exposure photography.

I will have the gear you need, but you do need to know how to use your camera. You will need to know how to change aperture, use the bulb function and use your camera in manual mode. I will teach you how to use your camera for long exposures. You will also get notes to take with you to help you do more when you get your own filters.

I use the Formatt Hitech filter holder and Firecrest ND filters.

I will be taking bookings soon.

Mentoring

I just want to remind you that I offer mentoring as well.

If you would like to work on your photography and skills, but don’t want to do formal classes then this is a great way to learn.

Here are some of the things I can help you with:

  • developing your style
  • critiquing your images to help you improve
  • camera skills
  • photo editing
  • learn how to use Instagram for photographers

You will be able to email any questions you have and send photos for critiquing. If you want more details then look at my page for Mentoring.

If you love my photography this is a great opportunity to learn from me. You can email me at leanne@leannecole.com.au

Trips

I’m planning a few trips this year. Nothing is written in stone yet, but I am hoping to spend a few days in Port Fairy with a friend. Some other friends are coming from California so I am looking forward to hanging out with them and doing a trip along the Great Ocean Road to show them the magic of our coastline.

I am going to be planning another trip to Tasmania later in the year, need to get back to Port Arthur. I am also thinking that a trip to Broken Hill could be great.

I haven’t done much travelling and I’m finding that I want to start doing a lot more in the future.

Photos

This week the photos are all the ones that I have had on Instagram this week. I lost of track of time on Wednesday and didn’t get a chance to do my usual post. I hope you enjoy them.

  1. You never cease to amaze me! Always so busy and organised. And you offer so much of yourself. How I wish I was there to do those long exposures! I so need help .. 😃

  2. I read your camera review. 🙂 Nice to see a review that does not read like every other reviewer. Seems they try to impress us with their technical knowledge while you told us your experience using it. You were also more conversational which I admire in this sort of review. Nikon has the specs for those who like that sort of thing. Maybe a link in the article?

    1. Thank you Robert, that is pretty much the way I feel about them too, people really want to know what it is like to use, and there is enough technical stuff out there already. I will suggest the link to my editor. I can’t do anything to it now.

  3. Beautiful, beautiful photos – especially those light trails. I find their randomness to be very fascinating.

This past July (2016), we had two hailstorms hours apart – the second one was worst than the first. Only part of the repair/replace was covered by insurance, the other part was out-of-pocket. So, yes, I understand very well what you’re going through regarding home ownership. It’s the expense you don’t expect when you need to do a major repair. It cost a lot, but I’m very much satisfied with the work. The other part is getting the right contractor (tradesman) to do the job the right way, the first time.

    1. Thank you David, I love light trails too.

Oh yes, storms and the damage they do. We had a car written off because of hail damage about 12 years ago. Hail is bad. This was an unexpected downpour and I think even if our roof had been in good condition it wouldn’t have mattered. So many people had problems. Oh yes, getting a contractor, I’m having so much trouble just finding someone who will come and give me a quote, let alone picking a contractor.

  4. The colours of your Instagram feed have your personal signature written all over them, really amazing stuff!
    Enjoy your weekend, Ron.
