Something for Friday – Social Media

Social Media is time consuming.

It takes time to learn how to use it, and then even more time to use it effectively. Just when you think you know how to use one of them something else pops us and you have start learning something new.

One thing I have learned is that if you want to be successful in photography, or anything, you need to use Social Media. So if you want to get your work out there you have learn how it works.

I don’t know how it all works, and there are still things I can’t work out, like Facebook, or more specifically how to get people to look at your page. Recently I heard that it had something to do with engageability, I believe they call it, you need to put up enough stuff to get people to engage with it, but not too much that they turn away. Apparently three times a day is enough, but more could be too much. It is hard to work it out.

Instagram

I’ve been using that a lot more recently. Again another one of those sites that everyone is saying you have to be on. Yet it isn’t simple. You have to do a lot of work to get people to look at your photos and to follow you.

I was asked recently why do you need so many followers? The simple answer is Credibility.

That is the same with all social media. People seem to like you more the more followers you have. It is weird. Though there is also an annoying thing that if someone starts to follow you, then you are expected to follow them back. If you don’t then they unfollow you. I won’t be forced to follow people like that. I want people to follow me because they like my photos, and if I like theirs, then I will follow them back, but only for that reason.

This is another social media site that I’ve been using a lot more too. I  use it to help me load my photos onto Instagram. I like how you can see all the photos together, a good folio. I try to only put photos up that I think show me off the best, it is the same with Instagram. I want people to go to those sites and only see work that I am proud of.

My blog is a bit all over the place, so it is nice to have somewhere where it is like a portfolio. Though, I am going to be doing some major work on this site and there to be some nice folios of my work here too.

Using Social Media

One of the main drives to learn how to use Social Media is to promote the magazine that I have started, Dynamic Range. I keep getting told that I need to use Social Media to promote it, but then the next question is how?

I’ve started an Instagram account for Dynamic Range Magazine, a Facebook page, and we now have an account on Twitter. Now to come up with a plan on how to use them is next. I have a new member on the team that is going to help me with that.

If you use Instagram then please use the hashtag dynamicrangemagazine (#dynamicrangemagazine) and we will see it, you might even get your image featured on the page.  It is small now, but it will get better, I know it will.

I will have to continue researching and seeing what I can learn about using Social Media. I will be an expert when I am finished.

Each Friday when I post on this blog I will always include the images that have been on my Social Media sites during the previous week. It is nice to see them here as well. I hope you enjoy seeing them.

  1. Hey Leanne .. I totally agree with you about instagram – it isn’t simple at all. And I find the following process silly. As for Facebook, I think one post per day is enough for business, but maybe I’m conservative. Looking forward to talking with you next week. 😀

  2. With all that activity on social media, making a magazine and so forth – how do you get time to take all those photos, not to mention to get so interesting as you do?

Liked you post on social media, though. Especially about followers and the amount of work involved. As far as i can see the gist is: Hard work if you want to get anywhere 🙂

    • Good question, I work very long days and every week. I do make time to go out and take photos though, very important to always be getting new photos.
Thank you, it does seem to be the case, I hope so, I’m certainly giving it all I have.

You got talent, Leanne. I am glad I followed your blog. Keep up the good work, my friend.

Talk to me, it is too quiet.
