A poppy from Alowyn Gardens. Taking photos of it last week and watching the bees having a great time.
Yesterday, I had a trip to Alowyn Gardens. I think it is one of the best places to test lenses for macro photography. Right now there are flowers everywhere. It was fantastic to see it all.
As I’ve said previously, I’m testing the Lensbaby Velvet 85 which I’ve been loaned by Lensbaby. I knew that Alowyn Gardens would be a great place to test it out. Up until now I’ve really only tried it out in my garden and the city. I loved it in the city, but I have struggled with my garden. I have to say I was really impressed with it today. I really enjoyed using it there. I liked how it was a bit easier to photograph flowers that were a bit further away.
I did take the Velvet 56 with me, and I knew if I wasn’t happy with the 85 I would swap to it, but I didn’t. I didn’t feel the need to do that. I think the Velvet 85 would be a great lens for me when it comes to the flowers.
I have two images for you now, one was taken with 56 and the other with the 85.
Earlier this week a parcel arrived and in it was a new lens that Lensbaby have loaned to me, the Velvet 85. It is part of the Velvet series. I’ve been using the Velvet 56 for over a year now, so when they asked me if I would like to try it and review it, I jumped at the chance. I love the Velvet 56 and have loved using it for macro photography, so I was curious to see what the 85 would be like.
It has been raining here quite a bit and the flowers in the garden are suffering from it a bit. They seem a bit soaked, or drenched, not sure. It is also nice to see that many things are starting to flower. I planted quite a few bulbs, so I’m looking forward to them flowering. I want to be able to have a garden that I can photograph all the time. It would be nice not to have to spend too much time travelling to other places to get photos of flowers.
Here we are on Easter Sunday and I haven’t been doing a lot. This morning I spent some time in the garden with the Lensbaby Velvet 56 and Samyang 100mm Macro lens.
The garden is starting to shut down for the winter, but there are still enough flowers to get some photos. I was experimenting with the close up filter and one of the extension rings I have. It was nice. A friend came over and we found a praying mantis, so we set up a dahlia so we could put it on it and take photos.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is almost over now and while I only went a couple of times it was great to be there again. I took hundreds of photos, some better than others, but still, it got me back into some macro photography. I really enjoyed playing around with the macro lens and the Lensbaby Velvet 56.
