Weekend Wanderings: Flora at Healesville Sanctuary

It has to be said that one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Healesville Sanctuary was to use the Lensbaby Velvet 56 on the flora that I knew would be there. The sanctuary is an Australian zoo and is full of animals that are indigenous here, and with that lots of native plants. If you want to see lots of what is Australian, it is a good place to head.

Yesterday I showed you the animals I photographed while there, and today I have the plants. The beauty of the Velvet 56 from Lensbaby is that you can do both macro and normal photography. You seem to have to be careful with the aperture and use it to your benefit. I’m slowly starting to understand it all.

I wish I could tell you what all these are, but I don’t know. There are some wattles, the round yellow ball flowers, then the spirally ones are usually grevilleas, there is some bottle brush, but the rest, not sure about. They are quite amazing and I hope you enjoy looking at them.

My weekend is almost over and there is much to do this coming week. I hope you had a good weekend, or are still enjoying it. Spring is almost here in Melbourne and there is a definite change in the air. I hope where you are is nice and you have been out enjoying it.

  1. I have the Lensbaby Sweet 50 with the macro kit – I love the look that you are getting with this Lens. I may have to put this one on my wish list

    1. You have the same as me. I love the look too Nora, I will have to put it on my list as well, it is going to be very hard to give it back. Thanks.

    1. Morning to you, though afternoon for you now. Thank you, I love the way the colours can do that, I think I might be addicted to it.

  2. These are beautiful Leanne. You certainly work magic with the Lensbaby. I’ve never seen a true advantage of the Lensbaby until this post. We’re winding down summer here, but I’m sure we’ll still have some hot September days.

    1. Thank you Anne, I think the Lensbaby really is great for macro photography, really comes into its own. Yes, I remember some of those hot September days when I was there, hard to believe I met you a year ago.

  3. I like the compositions and the dark backgrounds. Our eyes automatically go to the parts that are in focus and I am not sure that there is a focal point in all cases. This is just me being picky today :-).

  4. Beautiful macro shots with the lenbaby lens. Love the dreamy feel about these shots. There’s certainly a spring kind of feeling among these shots – bright, vivid and all the flowers blooming nicely. I had a relaxing weekend mostly at home. Yes, spring is here and the weather seems to be warming up just a bit in Melbourne. Good for going out to take photos, and I am sure you will be out and about soon 🙂

  5. Lovely photographs. I am very envious. Spring is also here in South Australia and the weather has been very mild.

    1. Thank you. I’m very lucky to be able to try out the lens. Spring is nice, but also means summer is close, I don’t like summer here.

    1. Thank you Chris, interesting question, I think it creates more bokeh, it also has a very specific look and blur that a normal macro doesn’t have.

  6. Wow… bright colours and dark back drop, my favorite 🙂

    Beautiful series, Leanne…
