Weekend Wanderings: Sunset along the river

A couple of days ago I was loaned the new Nikon camera, the D500, from Nikon Australia. It is Nikons new flagship DX camera and last night I took it into the city for a test drive, so to speak. It is really incredible. I keep finding things on it that make me say wow.

With the camera we walked along the river getting some photos as the sun went down. It was meant to be a good one, well, so I thought, but as you will see wasn’t so great. However, I was taking photos in some places I haven’t done before, so that was good. I think I need to do more of that.

Now before we go to the photos, I have to tell you that I’ve been published in an Australian Photography Magazine. I’ve been a fan of Better Photography from almost when it began, and of course, Peter Eastway, has always been one of the my photography heros, might even meet him one day. The article is on using photography for conservation, and relates to the book I have just done. Click here if you would like more information.

Here is a small selection of photos from the trip last night. All taken with the Nikon D500 and mostly using the 14-24mm lens. It was a stunning night for photography, well besides the flies earlier on and then the mozzies (mosquitoes). They were in full force. We put on some much insect repellent, it was horrible without it. I will leave you with my sunset photos.

  1. Congrats on your recent publication, a well-deserved reward for creative work! I’ve just purchased a D500 and am learning its tricks. It is so much more sophisticated than my D7000. I am looking forward to your further comments on the D500.

    1. Thank you John, it feels good to be published. It is a great camera, I discovered it had a touch screen while I was out the other night, haha, quite by accident. It a very sophisticated camera, and very similar to my D800.

  2. Congratulations on being published by Australian Photography Magazine. I’m so proud of you. And it is building on your amazing accomplishment with The Six Seasons of My Backyard… Very inspiring for those of us toiling in the arts.

  5. Well done on the article in Better Photography. Can’t wait to read it! Beautiful photos too. Is this their cropped camera?

    1. Thank you so much Chris, I was starting to wonder if it would ever be published, lol. Thanks, the city was nice last night. Yes, it has a cropped sensor.

  6. Your photos are absolutely gorgeous, Leanne. We were downtown to take photos of the Christmas lights….Let me just say if you saw my photos, you would grab my camera away from me and say, ‘That’s quite enough!’ Yes, they were terrible. 😀

    1. Thank you Lois, and I am sure I wouldn’t do that at all. We are always our own worse critics. We stayed away from the Christmas stuff as much as we could, but I might have to take a trip in one night.
