Catching up and looking back at Aireys Inlet

It has been a strange week. Not being able to get onto the internet while at my mum’s place was a little hard to cope with. It has never happened before, so I don’t really know what the problem was. It did give me a lot time to reflect and work out what I want to do. I don’t have all the answers yet, but I am thinking through some options.

Book Launch

My book, The Six Seasons of My Backyard, is having the official launch next Thursday night, the 24th of November. I’ve been busy organising everything for that. I have never done a book launch before, but hopefully I have everything I need in place. Tom Melican, who wrote the introduction to the book is going to give a speech and now that he is the mayor of Banyule give the event a little more class perhaps.

Oh, I better order the wine, I need to get a dozen bottles of some Toi Toi Wines. Β I love their Sauvignon Blanc, but I haven’t been able to find any of their red here, have to order something else locally. It has been good, since the book is about a local area I’ve been trying to source local produce for the launch. I don’t know how I will go, but will see.

I’m looking forward to it. I do have to make a speech which is going to be interesting. The last time I got up and spoke in front of people there were no nerves, I just did it. It was great, so I think I might be getting better at this public speaking.

Magazine

Issue 6 was published last week without too much fanfare. I think it is safe to say the next issue will be the last. But that shouldn’t stop you from buying this awesome issue.

Dynamic Range Magazine, Issue 6, out now.

Photos

The photos were taken last year on a trip to Aireys Inlet to take photos of the milky way around the lighthouse there. We did get there earlier and took some other photos as well. I love it down there, I must get back.

I hope your day is going well.

  1. Wonderful images Leanne! Best of luck with the book launch .. How very exciting. Sorry to hear about the mag, that’s a shame. And I’m very pleased you enjoy the savvy πŸ˜ƒ

    1. Thank you so much Julie, it is a shame, but I’m excited about some new projects, so perhaps it is meant to be. Thank you and yes, love it. πŸ˜‰

  2. Congrats on the book launch coming together, Leanne. Good luck with putting it together, and I am sure your speech will be amazing. You know what you are doing with your photography, and you have come so far over the last few years. Not everyone can say they are a published author. You should be very proud of yourself. All small achievements build up at the end of the day πŸ™‚

Brilliant photos of Aireys Inlet. I have never been there, but your photos make it such an enticing place to go to. With warmer weather around the corner, it will prove good going out to take photos by the coast, waters and beaches. But hopefully not too many scorching days this year.

Also, I read your previous MM post. Sorry to hear that the figures and entries are down. It is such a great space to share BW photography and so many of the images are very impressive. I read the comments on that post, and interesting to read WordPress/blogs may be a dying part of social media. It is a great point of discussion (probably can warrant its own post), but I do think it is still a great (self-hosted) portfolio for photography. My writing blog has been going steady this year even though I have been blogging less. But it is time consuming and it will be interesting to see where I take it next year, especially now that I am very interested i photography πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you Mabel. It does feel good to finally get it done, then again, another thing I need to market. haha, you would think I would be getting better at it by now, but I still suck at it.

I love Aireys Inlet, it is a great spot for photos.

I think blogging is becoming a bit of a casualty to other social media forms. Still a good place to have your say, but I think the time that people have to devote to it has lessened, unfortunately. You might have to come out with us taking photos Mabel. I know there could be a meet up this Friday night if you are interested. Let me know. Thanks again.

    2. Marketing is a tricky thing because every product is different, and audiences keep changing. Also each photo or book or art that we create is different, which makes marketing all the more tricky πŸ˜›

Thanks for the heads up, Leanne. Very kind of you. It is tricky given I work and sometimes finish work late, but I am sure the time will be right at some point πŸ˜€

    3. That is so true, it is hard to keep up with it all. Just have to keep trying things.
YOu’re welcome, I think a few are going, so thought you might be interested. Another time.
