Last week I showed you my favourite image of the Split Point Lighthouse and this week I have decided to show you my favourite image of the Cape Otway Lighthouse. There are quite a few lighthouses along the Victorian coast and I’ve been lucky to photograph quite a few of them, but there are three that I have taken many many photos of and this is one of them.
I took this when I was doing a workshop in Lorne and the weather had turned bad so we decided to take a drive to the 12 Apostles and along the way we decided to stop at Cape Otway. I took this with a tripod, but the wind was so strong that this isn’t a sharp image, and I would never let anyone buy it, but I love the mood of it. When it is just this size I think it works so I don’t mind showing it.
Here is it, and the header photo is a cropped version of the same image.

I love the long walkway to the lighthouse, but it can be hard to get images with no people because if you go there when the weather is good you will find people on the walkway and up on the balcony of the lighthouse as well. Bad weather is good to get nice images of it.
That walkway is also a great leading line to it. I do like to add a lot of drama to my images and I think this one is very dramatic as well. I hope you think it is too.
Tomorrow for Silent Sunday I think I will do the same that I did last week and show lots of other photos of this lighthouse and you can tell me if there is another one that you really like too.
Awesome shot!
Glad you like it Sharon, thank you.
Remarkable image of the lighthouse!
Thank you Amy.
Very dramatic, yes 😀 And a textbook illustration of the impact of using leading lines!
Thank you Sarah, I was thinking the same, so nice of them to put that walkway there.
I have read about light houses but never been about one. Lighthouses evoke the feeling of quiet witnessing laden with guidance.
If you ever get a chance, you should go, they are incredible. thank you.
Fabulous photography on so many levels, Leanne.
Thank you so much Donna.
You have some lovely images here!! Fab captures!
Thank you Kirana.
This is beautiful, Leanne. I love the walkway. It feels refreshing with the wind there.
Thank you Hazel, it was very windy indeed.
How awesome to be there. You’re most welcome, Leanne. Happy weekend.
It was good, but windy and the rain kept coming in, but great for photos. YOu have a good weekend too Hazel.
Thank you, Leanne
😁😊
Brilliant Leanne
Thanks Brian.
that does look cool with the weather behind it as a contrast
It almost seems perfect the storm the lighthouse, exactly the conditions why they have them. Thank you Beth.
the universe conspired to help you…)
I’m not sure I thought so at the time, lol
I can see why this is one of your favourite places. I love it here dramatic style of this shot.
There are one or two popular locations that I would love to photograph but like you mentioned with the lighthouse, getting a shot without other people in it can be near impossible.
Thank you Ryan. I love drama in images.
Yeah people can be so annoying when you want to take photos and you don’t want them in it, have to be prepared and ready to go and then wait for the perfect time.
Beautiful!
Thank you Jean.
I like the stormy sky with the bright lighthouse. My imaginative mind sees someone sitting on the railing looking toward the structure, or bravely balancing on the railing on the right corner of the frame 😀
I like how your imagination is seeing the the image Aryk, get scene you have created. Thank you.
Beautiful shot of the lighthouse!
Thank you Anne. It’s a shame you didn’t get to see this one.
Such a stunning lighthouse, Leanne. Something we don’t see here in the Midwest, land-locked!
It is a good one Sandy. That is disappointing that you don’t get to see them. I think the closest one to me is about an hour and half drive away. Thanks.
I love lighthouses. Keep ’em coming!
Thank you Margaret, I will do my best.
👍
😊
OOOOHHH I love your lighthouse! Living on the Bay of Fundy, we have the highest tides in the world and some amazing lighthouses as well.
thank you, that looks like an amazing part of the world, you must get some amazing images there.
