Favourite Image Series – Split Point Lighthouse at Aireys Inlet

I mean who doesn’t love a lighthouse?

I love them and every chance I get to photograph them I am there.

Last week I showed you a lighthouse with a the milky way and this week I wanted to show you another one of my favourites that just has some clouds. This was taken back in 2017.

I just want to point out that both these photos are the same, the header image is just a section of the main one.

I really like the clouds in this and from what I can remember these clouds were real and I haven’t replaced them. Why would you replace great clouds? I really liked the way they sort of framed the structure.

Let’s take a look.

This, I believe, was done for Monochrome Madness and that is why it is in monochrome, however, I’m sure you can tell that I also added a tone to it.

It is just one of those images that I love and in reality I didn’t do a lot too.

I think for Silent Sunday tomorrow I might share other images of this lighthouse that I have taken over the years.

  1. The clouds frame this lighthouse perfectly, no wonder you are very happy with this shot! I love it too, although for the landscape format crop I would have gone for a section including the top of the lighthouse and more of those dramatic clouds – what do you think?

    1. That’s what I was thinking too Sarah. Glad to hear you love it too. That was always a possibility, which is what I usually do, but I really like that little entrance at the bottom, so wanted to highlight it. It was only done for the header shot and would never be seen as anything else. Thanmk you Sarah.

    1. I wish I was a better photographer because they are only a few hours from me, but luckily there are many here who can do them justice

  2. I love the drama of your lighthouse image. And the tonal range.

Like you, I love lighthouse images, but I’ve only got a couple and they are in the distance.

Leanne, I’m just wondering if you’ve been over to King Island and done any photography. It’s an amazing small island and very photogenic. Especially the lighthouse and rocky shores and cliffs. A friend and I visited many years ago for a 4 day long weekend. I’ve read that there are over 300 bird species in one of the nature reserves there too. But I haven’t been back since I bought my DSLRs in 2010.

    1. Thank you Vicki. What a shame you only got a couple.
No I haven’t been there at all. We have stuck to the mainland when we went to Tassie. It isn’t a place I’ve thought about going to, no idea of even how to get there. It sounds nice.

    1. What can’t you put your finger on Matt? I can imagine why you wouldn’t have them there lol. We didn’t have any where I grew up.
