First look at some photos taken with the Tamron along the coast

I’m back from my trip to the Great Ocean Road, well really just around Port Campbell. I’m so glad we went when we did, especially as this new variant omicron, it was good to do it before it takes over here too.

As I said in my last post I took new gear with me and while I didn’t really get to play with everything I did get a chance to give the Tamron 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD lens a really good workout. Once it was on the camera it didn’t come off. I have to say I loved it. Now I want to know who I have to talk to to get one permanently.

It took me back to my trip to the USA in 2015 when I was loaned the Tamron 28-300mm for my full-frame camera. I loved using it as well. The range is fantastic and 18mm is great for wide-angle and then being able to zoom into 300mm was so good. It gave me a good range. I didn’t feel like I needed anything else.

If you are the type of person who doesn’t love changing lenses, I’m one of those, then this would be a great lens to have.

It is so good to finally see some lenses for mirrorless cameras from Tamron and I hope they do more and that I get to play with them as well. So stick around and I will let you know when they do. I believe this lens is also available for Sony cameras as well.

I think if I could criticise anything it would be the lack of stability or having none in the lens. I don’t know if this is something that will happen in the future, but it doesn’t seem to now. I don’t feel that I need it to take photos and most of the lenses I have that have it I switch off anyway, but I know there are others out there that do like it.

Over the two days, I took over 900 photos. Must be a record even for me. I have to weed out a lot and have done a fair bit already. You know how it is when you are somewhere like the 12 Apostles you just keep taking photos.

I think you can guess there will be a lot more photos to come as well. This is just a taste of what I have done so far. I’m going to leave it there for now and will get back with more photos soon.

Take care everyone, and stay safe.

  1. I have the Nikon version of this lens: TAMRON AF 16-300mm F3.5-6.3 Di II VC. It is a great walk-around lens and virtually never leaves my camera. I wish I could use it to the degree of talent that you demonstrate in your images. I will be looking forward to more.

    1. I agree, it is a great walk-around lens, perfect for that sort of thing really. Thank you John. I think there will be lots more to come.

  2. Just superb captures , Leanne. It must have felt really good to be out there again.
Gotta a question to you, I always wanted ask. You seem to get often loaners from different photography companies, how do you do that? Are you signed up for a certain program they offer or how does it work? If you don’t mind to share.

    1. Thank you so much Cornelia. I don’t really know the answer, I think because I have a reasonable following, but maybe also because the industry is much smaller here in Australia. I think if I was in the US it might not happen. I just approached them and asked.

  3. Hi, Leanne! I have a 70-300mm lens from Fuji. Do you know how they compare to each other? Obviously, my lens starts from 70mm and not from 18mm, but what about the rest of the range?

    1. I am sorry Svetlana, but I don’t, I’ve never used that lens. There are always pay offs, if that is the right way to say it with telephotos lens that have such a wide range, like vignetting at 300mm, but I don’t find it too bad. I think it is great and would recommend it as a great walking around lens. Thanks Svetlana.
