I found a folder of flower photos that I hadn’t done anything with. They were taken last summer, and I guess I had been taking so many that some were just forgotten about.
I am now so glad I took so many photos over the summer as I have lots to play with now. There are almost no flowers out there as winter has hit us, though with the very late summer we had, I’m sure I won’t have to wait long before new ones start showing again.
It seemed a no brainer that I decided to use ON1 to process them, and I think the thing I like is that you can make each image look different. Are they what I would do all the time? Probably not, then again, I really like how some of these look. Some of them were done with the presets I’ve made, and one wasn’t. I used a preset that came with the program when I got it.
When I look at them as a group, I like what I see. Maybe it is time to switch up what I’ve been doing and see if I can do more different versions. This might be a project for this winter.
I also want to point out that I don’t have an affiliation with ON1, that you buying it doesn’t mean I get anything in return. I am really enjoying the program and finding out what I can do with it. As I’ve said previously, I am looking for an alternative to the Adobe photography package as I suspect it is going to become too expensive for me to use in the future. I signed up for a year and have until May, but recently they put the price up almost 100%. While it is good that it hasn’t been raised for a few years, there is talk that they want it to be the same price as all the other apps they sell subscriptions to. I don’t want to pay over $30 a month for each one.
With that in mind there will be more experiments with using other software to see if I can find alternatives to LR and PS. I like ON1, though there are a couple of things that it doesn’t do well that would annoy me, but I think using it with another program could be great. The other program I am looking at now is Affinity Photo 2, which works almost the same as PS. The only thing that concerns me right now with it is that it does crash. I’ve only had it happen to me once, but it means I need to make sure I save often.
This is just an update on why you are going to see more of this sort of thing now. I hope you join me on the ride.
I bought the “basic” version of Affinity 2 and so far, I haven’t gotten it to do very much. ON-1 which is what I wanted, was a bit too pricey right now, but maybe on down the line … What IS nice about Affinity — even the basic tools — is that is isn’t just filters. It’s a whole processing tool. I am not sure it will open in WordPress — at least not in its Affinity format. It needs to be converted. I haven’t worked it out yet.
I have been using Affinity quite a bit and it does do a lot Marilyn, but it is more like Photoshop. So layers and stuff like that. It isn’t the same, some things are, but many things are a bit different. I hope you can get ON1, it is interesting and fun to use. I think any program you use you have to convert images. Seems to be the way they keep the information they have.
These images turned out well Leanne. Allan
Thank you Allan.

Thank you Beth, no definitely not anymore, it has been freezing today.
This is a beautiful collection, Leanne 🙂
Thank you Jean. 😀
Nice flower images, Leanne. I like how you’re doing images with ON1.
Thank you Joanne, good to hear, I’m certainly enjoying it.
I really like the first photo with the bright light coming through in the upper right corner. A price raise of 100%?! That’s crazy.
Interesting choice Lois, I wasn’t so sure about that one, but I love it now. lol. Yeah, it is unbelievable and if you look online the prices are even higher, I don’t want to see what they will be in May in next year. Thank you Lois.
Great florals Leanne! I remember Adobe promising that their Lightroom subscription wouldn’t go past 9.99 per month and you had to pay monthly. Now they’ve increased the rate and you have to pay yearly. So much for promises!
Thank you Anne. Yeah, they are making lots of changes. I suspect they are losing lots of customers, as people have less money to play with they are looking for alternatives. I know I am. Exactly, never believe promises from big companies.
