Floral Friday – Some infrared flowers from the garden

One thing I’m really pleased that I did over the summer was to take many photos of my flowers. I still have flowers out there and blooming, but the garden will start to slow down and die off for winter shortly. Already some plants are dying off, as they do at this time each year.

Now I have folder upon folder full of images that I can use as the days grow shorter and it gets colder. I do love winter, so I am not upset about it too much, or at all.

Since the photos from the last couple of days were monochrome I thought why not do some black and white flower images. I went through my folders of infrared flowers and decided to do these three.

I hope you like them.

  1. Oh, I’m a Winter person, too. Autumn and Winter feel peaceful to me. I love these images, too. I’ve always wanted an infrared camera! I tried an infrared filter before, but the images came out very grainy because of the looooooooong exposure time necessary. I didn’t mind that TOO much… but the dedicated cameras give a nice crisp image. I vaguely remember that there was a place in Melbs where you can buy them- or have a camera you already own converted into an infrared one. It’s on my “want” list, anyway. Can I ask where you found yours? Or any advice as to the best place to find an affordable one? ( Sorry; I know you have a bazillion comments to read already! )

    1. I like your description of it being peaceful, I agree. Thank you.
I love the infrared camera and am so glad that i got one. Yes you can get it done in Melbourne, there is a place called Imaging by Design in Collingwood, they are fantastic. I have had two cameras from them converted now. I was going to sell the first one, but it hasn’t happened yet. I used old cameras I had for the first one, it is an old Nikon D300s and for the second one I was given a Fujifilm X-T3 to convert, which has been great. No problem, ask away.

    2. Ah, thankyou so much! This is great to know, as I’m in Melbourne quite often. I’ll definitely be looking into this! Cheers again 🙂

    1. Thank you Margaret, it is something a special camera does, so it reacts to the moisture in the air, I believe. I don’t fully understand it either, but I like the effect.
