Floral Friday – The mums are starting to flower in the garden

It is almost Mother’s Day here in Australia and one of the flowers that is always out for this are the Chrysanthemums and I’m so happy that I have a great selection of them out in my garden.

Last year I bought a lot of them for the garden and I hoped that they would all come back. So far, they have, except for one. I guess time will tell how I go with them. I do find them hard to grow.

A few of them are flowering, while a few others are still thinking about it. Hopefully, in the next week or two they will all have flowers.

This is what I have so far.

  1. A beautiful selection of ‘mums 😀 I especially love the colour of the ones in your top image, and that lovely orange bottom left.

  2. Chrysanths (we don’t call them mums here, so your post title intrigued me before I opened it!) are, with dahlias, my least favourite flowers, being omni-present in supermarket bouquets. But your photos could tempt me to change my mind.

    1. Really, I’m surprised I thought everyone called them that. YOu don’t see them for sale much here, maybe around mother’s day, but that’s about it and you never see dahlias for sale. Thanks Margaret.

    2. They’re the stock-in-trade of supermarket bunches of flowers, all through the year. You probably see why they’re not my favourite, because of that.

    1. Good to also remember that mums are NOT perennials. They will, left to their own devices, reseed themselves, but eventually, you have to replace them. And they are always beautiful, my pride in the fall which is when they bloom in this part of the world.

    2. They aren’t, now that has ruined my day, lol. I hope so, I wonder if I should keep some flowers and try planting the following year. Thanks Marilyn.
