Floral Friday with 2 flowers

It has been good to see how many of you have been enjoying my Floral Friday’s and since I have my macro Instagram page I nearly always have photos to show. Today I thought I would let you see two of them.

The first one I took last week when I was visiting Abbotsford Convent. I had the Nikon D7500 with me and the 18-140mm lens on it and thought it might be fun to see what sort of images of flowers I could get with it. I have to say, it was good. I enjoyed using the lens with the camera. I think a dedicated macro lens is always going to be better, but if you don’t have one, this one isn’t bad.

The second is from my garden and taken with the Samyang 100mm 2.8 macro lens. I have to give that one back now, but it has been great to have it and use it. I was playing around with apertures and took the following image with an aperture of f/2.8. It was interesting to see what I could do with it.

Very different images.

I hope your Friday is good. Take care.

  1. I really like these floral images with the black backgrounds. Did you photograph them in such a way as to capture the black background at the same time or it added during post-processing? I would love to know how to create this effect

  2. Hi Leanne, I love the colors of both, the dark backgrounds just make the flowers pop out, Both are so good in their own right. The electrifying lavender or purple stands out perfectly on its own. The second should would not look as nice with a totally blackened background, the second image show such nice depth in a subdued manner. I just love them both. You know me I love flowers anyway! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, I think it is important to address each image individually like they different. I don’t work to a recipe.

    2. Thank You Leanne, you make me feel better. I read and here people talking about just using a preset in LR, and that is what they use all the time. I think when you do that, and look at a photographers pictures, and they all look the same, this must be what they do, just use a preset they like, or made and use it. I like my pictures to look individual. I feel that you cannot just lump all pictures into one category(preset) especially with nature photography, every thing is different and I want mine to look individual. What you said makes me feel good about the way I like to do my post processing too! 🙂

    3. Yes, I’m not a fan of presets, or filters, which are much the same, for much the same reasons as you.I agree with everything you have said.

  3. there is a splendid contrast between the two photos, the tissue paper quality of the first, seemingly feeling the weight of the darkness, where the second is bursting forth with a really rich color, the detail of the center of the flower is awesome.
