Getting a new phone and playing with a Wacom Cintiq Pro 16

So much new gear. Well, not really. I did get a new phone, and I do have the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16, but the second one is only on loan.

I am off to Central Australia very soon so I have been reaching out to a couple of companies to see if I can borrow some gear. Wacom Australia have loaned me the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 which I’m excited to try. It will be good to compare it with the Huion tablet that I have as well.

I also got a new phone. I’ve had my Pixel phone for almost 4 years, but Google has stopped giving it any updates. That means no security updates, which isn’t good. I really hate the way they do that. The expectation is to get another phone, but we have to stop with this disposable society that we live in.

Yeah, the battery wasn’t lasting long, but you can’t even buy a new battery for them anymore. You have to take it elsewhere to get someone else to do it, and who knows how much that would cost. So, I’m sure you can guess I got a new phone. I have gone back to Samsung.

I did see a Motorola phone which I got really excited about, then Dave told me they only give support for 2 years. Two years. What? That is so crazy. If it wasn’t for that I probably would have purchased it. I think Samsung does 4 years. That is better, still not great, but the best out of them all. When you are buying a new phone it is important to check that out.

I wanted a phone that takes good photos. I mean the one I wanted with the best camera had a crap battery. Why can’t they do both, great camera and great battery. I ended up with the a73, and I’m hoping it will be good.

This afternoon I took it out the garden and put my Struman Optics macro lens on the phone and took the image in this post. It isn’t fantastic, but it will take me a while to get used to it. Then I processed the photo with the Cintiq Pro 16. It was great.

I’m not going to talk about the tablet right now, I will fill you in about it more as I use it more.

Here is the image I took with it. Have a great weekend everyone.

  1. I can sympathize wih those phone issues. There seems to be no good answer. Anyway, nice first photo with the new phone. I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of the the Wacom. I’m planning to get a new tablet in the coming months and will wait for your verdict. Have a great trip!

    1. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they actually gave updates for the life of the phone, not to when they think you should get a new one. I am excited to see how it goes. I’m impressed so far and there is really only one thing that I don’t really like about it, but it isn’t a big issue. I will definitely let you know. Thanks Robin.

  2. The photo is very nice, Leanne, it always takes a few days to get used to a new phone. I have the iPhone 12+ and love the photos it takes. I never thought years ago that we would have a device like this. They become an important piece of our daily lives.

    1. Thank you John. Yeah, getting used to Samsung again too is taking a bit. I would never be allowed to go iPhone, but that’s okay. It really has become very important.
