Lens Artists Challenge #345 – My Go To Places

So John from Journeys with Johnbo has challenged us this week to show you our GO TO PLACES. Great idea for a challenge as I think we all have places that we love to go to over and over. I have a few, but I decided to go with my first 3 ideas. So here they are.

The City of Melbourne

Going into the city has been something that I’ve been doing for more years than I care to count and I’ve been photographing it since about 2010, perhaps. It has changed a lot in that time and every time I go back, there is more that has changed. Some changes I love, some not so much.

I haven’t been going in there as much in recent years because there was COVID, and lately because they are building so much stuff that it all seems a bit ugly. I will go back when the new tunnel is finished and they have made the city look beautiful again. Well I hope they do that.

I probably have more photos of the city than anywhere else, so I have found a few photos. I really tried to limit myself here.

The Docklands

I’ve always found the Docklands to be an interesting place to photograph for a couple of reasons. The first because the architecture is fairly new. Not always wonderful, but still new. The second is because it is an area that doesn’t get a lot of people visiting it. It can be like a ghost town. It was one of those developments that really wasn’t as successful as they hoped it would be.

Again, I have found a small selection of photos. I have so many from here as well.

My Garden

This is the last gallery of images I want to show you. From COVID and being in lock down for what seemed like a couple of years I was able to start spending a lot more time in my garden. It had always been a wish to have a macro garden, meaning one I could just walk out to any time I wanted to photograph the flowers. I think I have achieved that now.

This is probably my go to place the most these days. I spend so much time out there and love getting out there with my camera. I also want to start bringing some of it indoors to photograph as well.

So far this year I have about 18 folders of photos on my laptop from the garden and here a small selection.

I also like photographing my local park and going down to the coast, but I think if you looked at my photos I would have more from these than anywhere else.

I want to thank John for being our host, and I love the challenge this week. Those of you reading this I hope you will click the link at the start of the post to see what John has posted.

    1. Thank you Ann-Christine, I am so glad too that I got my macro garden, I love going out there to see what is flowering now.

  2. The flowers are simply fabulous, Leanne, but I’m always drawn to water and your Docklands are my favourite group. The last of those is stunning xx

    1. Thank you Jo, I do love having them in my garden. Do you mean the one taken with the fisheye? I loved that one, I don’t always love what i get with that lens, but sometimes it can be a lot of fun.

  3. Such a contrast between your city go-to places and the tranquillity of your own garden! But all three locations are beautifully photographed. I think I would recognise one of your photos anywhere, your style is so distinctive and striking!

  4. You met the challenge and then some! The city gallery striking. Your shots are always dramatic and make the buildings have life. I can feel the passion you have for your garden.

    1. Thank you Ruth, that’s good to hear. I do love photographing the city so I am glad that it comes out. I like that idea of it them coming to life. Oh yeah, I love my garden so much, hopefully it will just get better.

  5. The Docklands have a mysterious feel to it! What an interesting place to visit and photograph.
The Melbourne photos are fabulous, as well as your flower photos from your garden. I took your advice about photographing large building and how to start small. So I’ve been trying that and it’s going pretty well. I start with one thing from a building and try not to get too greedy in trying to get the whole thing into the photo frame. lol. Thanks for your advice!

    1. That is an interesting observation Esther. It is interesting, and sadly I walk around thinking about what could have been.
Thank you so much Esther and also thank you for letting me know how you are going with your photos. That is great to hear that it is helping you. Well done and keep going.

    1. Well now there is, but wasn’t always the case, well unless I wanted to photograph the wild blackberries that were taking over. lol

  6. Leanne, your city pictures are truly fine art! And the garden pictures as well. Your skill and creativity are evident in all these pictures. Really good work!

I have to write that I am such a fan of your cityscapes. They are magical. My favorite is the night view with all the light trails. Beautiful!

    1. I did John, and it has been good to see what others have posted as well.
