Lens-Artists Challenge #346 – Cinematic

Interesting challenge from photographias’s Sofia, one I think I can rise to, well I hope so. She is asking to look for images that have a CINEMATIC look to them. For more details hit the link and take a look at what Sofia has to say.

I know that I have said in the past that movies definitely inspire my images. Perhaps not so much what the subjects are, but how I process them. I think you can learn a lot by looking at movies and studying what they have done in filming and in the post edit part.

Here is a short list of movies that I have found to be inspiring.

  • Lord of the Rings
  • The Matrix
  • Dark City
  • Lemony Snicket
  • Day After Tomorrow
  • Hunger Games

Some of them are fantastic movies, others not so much, but visually I think they are all amazing. There are many more that I find the same, but these were the first few that I thought of. They have a certain style that I love seeing, and when I think of these movies there will be scenes that I find really unforgettable. I have always tried to get my images to look staged and like they are a still from a film. I remember once someone was trying to insult me and said they don’t look real. I responded thank you, that was exactly what I’ve been trying to do. I don’t think she liked that answer.

Here are some of my urban images that I have tried to do that with.

I tried to showcase images that I haven’t shown before, or not much. Believe you me, I have a lot of them.

Landscapes are a little different for me. I’m never really sure how to do them. I’ve tried doing the same sort of thing as I do with my urban images, but it doesn’t always seem to work. I don’t know what it is, but here are some that perhaps fit that theme of cinematic.

Gotta say the first one and the other wave shots always remind me of that scene in the first Lord of the Rings movie where the rushing water turns into horses.

Interesting challenge Sofia and thank you so much for being our host and doing this one, I love it. As I said in the start I would encourage everyone to take a look at Sofia’s post, then look up Lens-Artist in the reader to see what everyone else has done. Show your support.

  1. Another challenge especially made for you! I hoped you would like it and enjoy playing – which you did. 😀 Your urban touch is always perfect, and your nature images can take that treatment too. Always a stunning visit when it comes to you.

  2. I liked your take on the cinemtaic theme and knew most of the movies you mentioned – and my fav of the post were the urban images and that one with the strong white building (that looked like steps) really felt like The Matrix vibe

  3. This challenge suits your style very well as there’s always a lot of drama in your photographs. I’m inclined to agree with you that it’s most effective in the urban shots which I can definitely see as the backdrops to a movie, but I enjoy seeing what you do with your landscapes too.

    1. It really does, almost like it was a custom challenge just for me. lol. Good that you agree with me about the urban shots. Thank you so much Sarah.

  4. There is a cinematic feel to your urban shots especially, Leanne and the examples you’ve picked are sublime. Thank you for joinning in, and glad you enjoyed it too.

  5. Fabulous images Leanne, your cityscapes are especially cinematic 💛

  6. Lots of drama in these shots that woud play out well in a cinematic setting. Believe it or not, I haven’t seen a single one of the films you mention!

    1. Thank you Margaret, I do love the look. Wow, I can’t believe you haven’t seen any of them. Lord of the Rings is probably the best one.

  7. The urban ones have a mysterious feeling to them, with the empty spaces evoking a bit of fear about a dystopian future! Great job, Leanne 🙂.

  8. Beautiful images and yes very cinematic for sure. I have always admired the mood of your images. The darker tones really impress emotion.

  9. I definitely think your style is very cinematic… so I don’t think you have/had anything to worry about.
