Lens-Artists Challenge #354 – Reflections

This week our host is Anne from Slow Shutter Speed and she wants us to look at REFLECTIONS. I have to say I love this. I don’t think there are many photographers who don’t love a good reflection. I know Anne has given you a lot of different ways to see reflections and I’ve tried to find as many different ones that I can.

There is one that I love and have shown many times.

I usually show it in monochrome as I think it makes it more abstract with no colour, but for this challenge, I wanted to show this version. It is the Royal Exhibition Building reflected in the windows of Melbourne Museum.

There are so many ways to get reflections, whether that be water, windows or mirrors. I have hunted around in my archives to see what I could find.

Water is most definitely the most popular way to get them, and I’ve always tried to get them with still water.

The river in Melbourne has given me some great reflections over the years.

Some of these are long exposures, and the longer time helps to get the reflection, especially if there isn’t a lot of movement in the water. The second image in the above gallery was a 1 minute exposure, and the reflection turned out great. One of my favourites too.

There are other water bodies too, like the river in Yosemite and then puddles of water on the ground.

Next we have buildings that have glass, and you can get some great reflections in them.

I love these ones and love capturing them.

I have a couple that are a bit different, and I wasn’t sure where to put them, so they can go on their own. The first one was a reflection of the ground from a mirror like ceiling in the city one rainy day. The other was taken at the 9/11 Memorial in New York.

Great challenge from Anne this week. I would like to thank Anne for being our host and would ask you to please go and see her post, the link at the beginning of the post.

  1. You’re right, I think most of us love to photograph reflections! I especially love your city water images, and I was interested to learn that using a tripod improves the reflection – although I still don’t plan to use one myself because of the weight and hassle!

    1. Yeah, they are popular to photograph with good reason. Thank you Sarah. It can improve them in some situations. Your choice Sarah, I would always have one with me, even a small one.

  2. Great pictures! The glass in the buildings are cool. When I first read the challenge as “reflection,” my mind immediately went to water, but you have more perspective on what reflections can be: like windows and mirrors. I will have to go through my photos now!

    1. Thank you Esther, I like trying to get the glass ones, not always easy. Yeah I think most people think water too. I did. You should, maybe join the challenge too.

  3. Wonderful post and photos, Leanne! Your water reflections are stunning. I also liked the abstract reflections you caught.

  4. Wonderful images, Leanne! I love your sense of style, your artistic temperament, and the skill with which you craft beautiful images like these!

  5. Brilliant reflections Leanne! I do love the feature image of the Web bridge–my favorite bridge! All your other images are just awesome, especially the buildings.
