Our host this week is Sarah from Travel with Me and she thought it would be fun to look at THE SEA. Please take a look at her post to get an idea of what you can do if you aren’t sure.
I suppose the definition of what the sea is could mean a few things. I’ve taken it to be salt water, and while most of my photos are of the ocean, or the sea, there are one or two that were taken in the bay here in Melbourne. That means they are salt water, but not sure if they are really the ocean. I’m including them anyway. I hope Sarah is okay with that.
Nearly all these photos are new monochrome images besides one or two. Some you have seen before but in colour, but most you have never seen before. The photos range in year taken from 2014 to 2023. I spent quite a bit of time going through my archives to put together these for you.
I don’t think of myself as a landscape photographer. I’ve never really been comfortable doing that, but take me to water and I am very happy. I love going to the coast to take photos. There is something about the wild ocean, how dangerous it is, and I love to take photos of it. I have to admit the ocean does scare me and perhaps that is because I grew up about 400 kilometres away from it. My experiences with it were limited.
Having said that I do love to watch it, especially on a day when it is stormy and the waves are wild. It is like the sea is angry. It is mesmerising.
I would like to thank Sarah for being our host this week and I’m looking forward to seeing what you she does. Please go and visit her blog.

Thank you Geoff.
Stunning images Leanne!
Thank you Robert.
As always I enjoyed the sense of the dramatic in your images, and I have no problem with you including the bay – even if it doesn’t qualify as the ocean, I certainly consider it to be part of the sea!
Thank you Sarah, that is it really, the bay leads out to the ocean.
And here we are: https://margaret21.com/2025/02/05/the-sea-the-sea-2/
Wonderful.
Wonderful and dramatic!
Thank you Sofia.
These are great photos Leanne, so dynamic 😀
Thank you so much Brian. 😀
Those are strong images, great contrast. I loved how you manage to capture sea at its calm and brutal moments.
Thank you Daniel, it helps when you love what you are photographing.
So beautiful! As I’ve said before, Leanne, I envy your photography skills! ❤️😊
Thank you so much John.
🤙🏻☺️☺️
😊😊😊
Yeah! Waves and spray. That has been in small supply whenever I was at the sea, at least in the last 20 years when I was carrying a camera.
Here are my wet offerings for today: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2025/02/04/recreational-facilities/

Thank you.
I grew on the northeast coast of Brazil and lived there the first twenty-four years of my life. The ocean is in my genes. These are gorgeous photos.
I envy you that Egidio, must have been amazing. I like the ocean, but I don’t like the taste of it, yuck. Thank you.
Wow Leanne, what great images! And some brought back great memories of my visit. Your header image is simply magnificent!
Thank you Anne, I think one or two were taken when I was with you too. I love setting the camera up on a tripod and just capturing the waves as they crash.
These ARE striking. I shall have to have a trawl and see what I can come up with.
Thank you Margaret, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
It’s sitting waiting till Sarah posts so I can link it. You’re linked already!
Okay, then I will see it tomorrow, I’m off to bed soon.
great choices, the sea is indeed beautiful and dangerous at the same time
Thank you Beth, it really is.
These look fabulous in black and white, like old Victorian paintings.
thank you Alison, that is an interesting observation, fantastic.
