This theme is from the blog Stupidity Hole and he wants us to do HANDS. This was a hard one for me because I don’t photograph people, so I don’t really have photos of hands. However, I did come up with a couple .
The first one is a photo of my grandmother’s hands. This was taken in 2003 and she died the following year, I think it was. So I timed it well to get the photo. There is a lot of history in those hands and a lot of hard times too. She was a funny lady, not very loving, if that is a good way to put it. I’m sure she loved us, but she never showed it. She was also a keen photographer. She loved to take photos on her trips.
As far as human hands go that is it for me. I haven’t even been around anyone recently to get some photos.
The next ones are from when I first went back to study, also 2003. We had a project for hands and had to doing something that was about them. We also experimented with pinhole photography. We had these boxes that had a pinhole in them, and you put a piece of photographic paper in the box to get the image. It was really fascinating. This is what we got.
When I was trying to think of hands, I thought about cat paws. So not technically hands, but for a cat close to it. Anyway I’m going for it.
These belonged to our cat Tiddles who we had to say goodbye to 5 years ago. I used to photograph him a lot with the macro lens when I first got into macro photography. He was always patient with me, especially when he slept.
I would like to thank Stupidity Hole for being our host this week. It was a tough one for me. As I said last week he has been Monochrome Madness for almost as long as me.
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then I can use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to my monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. We have also included a list of themes that will be coming in the future so if you want to be able to plan ahead you can. They aren’t in order, but will happen. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
Also if you would like to host one week or more, let me know.
Beautiful hands and paws …
Thank you Julie.
Beautiful photo
Thank you Nora.
“A lot of history in those hands” — beautifully phrased, and beautifully photographed. A loving and powerful tribute. (Yousuf Karsh also did powerful B&W photographs of hands. You might enjoy them.)
That’s for sure, Thank you so much Penny. I might have to check them out.
So, after starting a post with human hands, I changed my mind:

YOu did good Egidio.
Much gratitude!
😁😁
That photo of your grandmother’s hands is so beautiful, it would surely have sufficed on its own! But it was very clever of you to come up with cats’ paws too, I’m not sure I’d ever have thought of that 🤔
Hands aren’t somethng I would normally photograph either amd in any case I’m travelling so don’t have access to my archive but I spotted something today that I think fits the bill: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/a-postcard-from-the-philippines-hands-in-banaue-market/
Thank you Sarah, I thought I was being cheeky with the paws, lol.
hello leanne,
an excellent selection and interesting pictures you have chosen for the challenge theme here. i like them very much.
here is my contribution to the challenge, https://wp.me/pfnz9O-CB.
many greetings robert
Thank you Robert.
A beautiful photo of characterful hands. And I too struggled with this. Then our grandchildren’s visit provided a way out: https://margaret21.com/2025/02/19/hands-put-to-work-at-the-viking-festival/
thank you Margaret. YOu were lucky, I think I would have done similar if anyone had been over. lol

Great selection of hands. So many stories in each selection. Wish my cat would let me take pictures of him. He sees the camera and hides. 🙂
Yeah, I love images that tell stories. Wait until he is asleep that is what I have to do. lol. Thank you.
Thank you for having me : )
I think you knocked it out of the park, and I like how you’ve included your cat, Tiddles, into this too. Fond memories, I imagine.
Here’s mine for this one: https://stupidityhole.com/2025/02/19/hand-form-four-photos/
You’re welcome, thank you for being our host.
Thank you, I thought the cat paws would pad out my post, lol.
I deleted the other comment you made, the copy.
A great theme although somehow old hands and for that matter dirty hands photograph best. Your grandmother’s hands are very expressive. And who doesn’t love a cat’s paw (looks soft but carries a sharp claw).
My hands:
I agree, though I love babies hands too. Thank you Elke, I love the paws.
Oh, this will be tough for me, too. I’ll have to look and see if I have anything in my archives. I like your image and the life story it tells.
That’s what I thought too Egidio. I hope you find something. Thank you.
Beautiful hands.
Thank you Dawn.
Oh Leanne, I love your grandmother’s hands. They tell so much about her character and her strength.
Thank you Anne. She worked hard, mainly in her garden and knitting later on in her life.
those hands – what a lot of life has been lived with them
Very true Beth. thank you.
