Monochrome Madness #33 – Mirror

It is an interesting theme this week from our host Margaret from From Pyrenees to Pennines and as you can see it is MIRROR. You will have to look at Margaret’s post to see what she thinks you should do.

For me, well I do like to do my own thing, lol. So when I thought of mirror there is the obvious mirror mirror on the wall. Here is one I took at Montsalvat and yes I knew the theme was going to be mirror and had to take the photo when I saw it.

So while I do think that one is obvious, I decided that I really wanted to look for other+ mirror reflections. Like in water or windows. I had to do this because I don’t have a lot of images of mirrors, actually that is probably my only one.

As I said windows can be like mirrors and technically they are just glass with a coating on the back. This is one I took a few years ago.

I have shown that image quite a few times and I never get sick of it, the way the windows of Melbourne Museum reflect the mirror image of the Royal Exhibition Centre.

This is another one I have.

I love how the windows mirror a really old brick building.

So I have a confession to make about this one. It is a total fake. Well, fake as in the reflection. The two buildings were real, but I didn’t like the original reflection in the windows, so I changed them. I took photos of the old brick building so I would have roughly the same angles. I have always thought it worked okay.

These are not the only fake reflections you are going to see today. Let me show you some more.

I faked both of these. The first one was done in 2012, and the second one was done yesterday for this.

Here are two that were real.

I like challenging myself at times and this week I think something is going to change. I have finally got a set up that will make it so much easier to process my photos, and I’m looking forward to doing a lot more.

I am going to do a gallery with all the images for you to see. I also want to say that all these photos, except the one of the museum, were all converted to monochrome yesterday.

I want to thank Margaret for being our host this week, and it would be great if you go and take a look at her post.

Brian from Bushboy’s World will be our next host in two weeks. His choice for the theme will be announced next week.

  1. As always, interesting shots!

    To my fellow bloggers:
Sorry for my blogging inactivity these past months. A lot on our plate during this big move from Spring Valley to Oceanside, CA. Now to see who’s still out there.
    Have a wonderful day!

  2. These are all great Leanne and I suspect we’re all going to interpret ‘mirror’ quite widely – I know I will! Your actual mirror shot is really effective and my other favourite was the fake Flinders St Station one – I would never have guessed you’d faked that, although I’m sure if you know the station you would spot it 😀

    1. I think you are right Sarah, I think that is what is so good about these challenges and themes. The mirror was a lucky one, lucky I went there when I did. Yeah, Flinders Street would never flood like that that, it was a fun one. Thank you Sarah.

  3. I knew you’d deliver in spades Leanne! I don’t know where to start in finding a favourite: Maybe the relections from Melbourne Museum? My post’ll be up bright and early tomorrow morning London BST.

    1. Thank you Margaret, when you first said mirror, I thought oh no, what can I possibly do, then I remembered the water reflections, then I saw that mirror at Montsalvat, and the one you like was a very last minute addition. Great theme.

  4. The Melbourne Museum window/mirror is fantastic! And the photos in monochrome..that was definitely with way to go. They look wonderful.
