I’ve been trying to do more still life photography and I thought it would be good to show you a couple I’ve been experimenting with for Monochrome Madness.
You shouldn’t be too surprised to hear that I have been experimenting a lot with still life photography. In the past I have spoken about it.
On the weekend I took a trip with my friend Chris to Inglewood. There are quite a few antique, second-hand stores there and it can be a good place to find interesting objects for still life. As you can imagine I got quite a few interesting objects.
When I was trying to work out what to do for Monochrome Madness I thought I might try putting together some of those objects, plus some of the things I already have.
I’m still trying to work out how to do still life. Taking the photo is okay, and lighting I’m okay with, but composition, well I feel like I’m lacking. Though, as I do more I think I’m getting better.
There is something else I have to admit I am really enjoying it. Yesterday I planned some baking, worked out what sort of photos I wanted before I made anything. I baked, and then before this, I photographed what the food. While exploring this sort of photography I am taking so many more photos. Each week I am planning a few shoots and then doing them. It has been fantastic.

I used the Fujifilm X-T3 for these with the 16-55mm lens. I used Billy and Winston, my 3 Legged Thing tripods.

If you want to contribute there is a Facebook group, TPM Photos which you can join and share your images. Of course, if you are blogging no reason why you can’t post your own. I like this challenge and it is nice to be thinking in monochrome again.
For me its the image to the right also.I like to play with still life images too and it is always interesting as you arrange things which compositions you end up liking. Sometimes I will labor over an idea, abandon most of it and end up liking something way simpler I threw up in the end best. I do love interesting found objects of all sorts!! This is why I am a pack rat, every odd object MIGHT be a great photo object.
