Monochrome Madness – Some infrared images from around Heide

Last week I showed you some infrared photos of flowers that I took at Heide Museum of Modern Art the day before, but you know I took more than just flower photos.

I have never taken infrared photos there before so it was fun to see what the camera captured. I think I said that we only explored the gardens and sculpture park there.

It was a beautiful day and I have to say we are getting the autumn weather now that should have started over a month ago. It is hard to believe winter technically starts in less than a month and I’m still wearing summer clothes.

The gardens and architecture there are quite stunning and you can have a lovely day just walking around outside, which we did. It is quite a large garden, though not as big as it was originally.

First off I want to show the header photo again.

This is an infrared image but I processed this one in ON1 Photo RAW. I’ve been spending a lot of time in it to see what I can do. Things are slowly starting to come together and the more I look the more I realise what a big program it really is. So I am sure you are going to see more photos processed with it.

For the rest of the photos I used Photoshop, mainly because I was being lazy and I know what to do in it. I also tried adding some tones to a couple of them.

I’m not absolutely sure I like these, you will have to let me know what you think about them.

Next week our host is Brian from Bushboy’s World and for Monochrome Madness #34 he wants us to do Streetlights – by day and at night.  Should be an interesting theme, and I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone posts. I have some ideas I think.

  1. The trees look so ethereal in infrared! And I agree the header is the most effective photo but I also like the top two in your gallery a lot 🙂

    1. Thank you Sarah, I like what infrared does to trees, looks great. That’s great to hear that you like those. I might have to do more in ON1 now.

    1. For me they are more autumn Margaret, the leaves are only just starting to turn and the weather has been beautiful, almost perfect Melbourne autumn. Thank you.

    1. Thanks Beth for letting me know. I think I don’t like that it was a bright sunny day. I think I prefer overcast days for them.

  2. I like the ones that play on light and shadow, particularly the one with the bench. I’m totally intrigued by infrared photography. I has the Brechtian V-effect (alienating effect) making sure the onlooker takes a second look.

    1. yeah, that is a good thing about monochrome and infrared. It is very interesting, and you never know what you will get with it. I haven’t heard of that other thing, then I looked it up and realised what you were talking about. I think they used it a lot in Lord of the Rings. Thank you Elke.
