It is a free week again and you can find out what the next theme will be at the end of this post.
For the free week I thought I would try to see if some of my rainforest photos would look good in monochrome. To me the thing I think about when photographing them is the green moss and how that stands out in photos. When you convert them you lose that, though you can sort of tell what is mossy because it is almost white in the photos.
These photos are from the King Billy track that we took at Cradle Mountain when we were there in May last year. It wasn’t a long track, but it was a little challenging, mainly because you were on a wooden track that had quite a large number of steps in it. My friend wasn’t as fast as me, so I probably did the track one and a half times as I kept going back to see her.
It was a good walk for photos too, because you were in a thick rainforest and I got the feeling that the sun didn’t penetrate it a lot.
Next week our host is Margaret from Pyrenees to Pennines, and she has chosen the theme MIRROR. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone posts for that one.
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then we can all use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to the host’s monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
I’m back with a link to my own post, a little late this week: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/gallery-a-celebration-of-national-parks-in-black-and-white/
I will look at it soon Sarah.
Very nice, deeply moody images, Leanne. I’d say the rainforest does work in monochrome in your images.
Thank you so much Joanne, it has been good to hear what others have thought of these. It is encouraging.
hello leanne,
as always, wonderful pictures that you present here, i like them very much.
my contribution for this week, https://wp.me/pfnz9O-Hi.
many greetings robert
Thank you so much Robert.
I think these work well – they have the look of a rather sinister fairy tale!
Thank you Sarah, the theme of fairytales seems to have come up a lot with these.
Forest is a great topic for monochrome, these are very dark, scary. I have only been to the rainforest few times, It did not feel like this to me, I find forest soothing in most parts. Those roots are awesome.
That’s great to hear Ritva, I wasn’t really sure. I like dark. Rainforests are magical I think, and I love visiting them. We have quite a few around us, though that one was from Tasmania. Thank you Ritva.
The darkness of a rainforest lends itself to monochrome
Glad you think so Brian, I wasn’t sure. Thank you.
The wonderful shape, the form and shadow take over from the moss.
That’s true, thank you Geoff.
Like a wood in a fairytale. Dark and menacing … I had a different post planned but when I saw your photos it reminded me of an outing last year where we came across an overgrown forest rather unexpectedly.
I like that idea Elke, thank you. I look forward to checking out your post too.
About as good as my southern swamps. My opinion, but too much clutter, everything is texture so nothing smooth for contrasts, etc.
Thank you Ted, there is always lots of clutter in a rainforest, sorry.
Looks fantastic and intriguing.
That’s fantastic Michael, thank you.
You’re welcome, Leanne.
😁😁😁
I think in b/w these photos ooze mystery and sorcery. A fairy tale in every shot!
I really like that Margaret, thank you so much.
It worked beautifully! Monochrome brings out the textures and moods of rainforests so well.
Thank you Egidio, that is good to hear, I wasn’t sure.
It actually does look pretty cool, I never would’ve thought of monochrome for a forest
Me either Beth, so glad you like it. Thank you.
