One Four Challenge – Experimenting with the stone bridge from Yosemite Week 1

For this month I decided to play around with an image that I took at Yosemite National Park when I was there in 2015. It was taken early in the morning while we were out exploring. We were staying at Curry Village, but only had one night there.

Before we get started, for those of you who are interested in what the One Four Challenge is, you can find out by going to this link for more information. Please take a look at Joanne’s post as well.

I really loved this bridge and thought it was a great. There was an old feel about it and I have to admit that I was influenced by that feeling for this series.

Will we take a look at what I did for week one.

I did use ON1 again for this month. I really liked it, and this challenge really gives me a good chance to really see what is possible in it.

I did the usual processing trying to fix the highlights and shadows and get it to look better. If you look below to the original you can see what problems I had.

I did apply a preset and for this one I chose one from Retro and I use R16. I also did some local adjustments too so the bridge would stand out more.

Here is the the original.

I haven’t done anything to this as I wanted you to see the image as it was taken.

I’m still not sure about this challenge, it seems to be one that most of you are not interested in. It is a lot of work and I have to decide whether I want to put all the work into a post that people don’t seem that interested in. We will see at the end of this month.

I have put the images together in a gallery with what I’ve done so far.

  1. Week 1 is a remarkable change to the original Leanne..
Look forward to seeing more this month.
I like your chosen image too.

I’m still trying to decide if I’m joining in tis month.. don’t seem to have an image that inspires… yet.. 🙂

    1. Thank you Robyn. It is a start, hopefully there will be more that get better.
It can be hard to work out the image to use.

  2. This was quite a challenging shot. I can tell what you were dealing with by seeing your original. That is one of the difficulties that we face as photographers. Sometimes when time is limited, we cannot wait around for the “perfect light.”

For me, I am really enjoying your series as it is cool to see what you do to change and improve upon an image.

So I vote to keep it going. Thanks Leanne!

    1. I definitely had limited time there, one morning and that was it. It can be so hard when you are travelling, part of the reason I think photographing where you live is better.
It is nice to hear that others are enjoying it, I think I will have to see how I feel at the end of the month. Thank you Tim.

  3. This was interesting in that I like the processed bridge, but I like the original mountains. Those two seem to go together better to me. This processing you do is pretty fascinating to me.
