One Four Challenge – Stairway going up Week 3

For week 3 I had a few ideas, did they work, well we will see. I went through various ideas and in the end I did what I did. Just a reminder the image above is last weeks image.

So, quickly, this challenge is a nice one to push you with processing or thinking outside the box. If you want more information on this challenge or want to join us, you can find information here.

Let’s get to it and take a look at the original again.

As I’ve said before, I do love these stairs and the poles around it, but I don’t like the trees on the right and the bright sunlight on them. Each week that is the area I’ve tried to fix and this week is no different. I’ve also concentrated on bringing the stairwell and beams out more too.

Let take a look at my attempt this week.

As you can see I removed the trees and the bright building and put a seascape there. I tried to make it look like it is was on the beach, but there are problems. It’s one thing to attempt these sorts of things, but when you don’t know ahead of time what you want to do it is hard to find the right images. As my daughter just said I need to start a B roll of images for doing this.

I initially was going to put a city image there, and I might still do that next week, but I couldn’t help wondering if I could make this look like it was by the sea. You know the stairs might lead up to an observation deck or something like that.

I tried a few ocean images and this is the one I settled on. I changed it a bit to try and make it fit. I think it would have worked more if there had been a lot more sand or something before hitting the building. I also had remove any reflection of the original trees and buildings from the windows in the background too.

Then I thought I should put something over the base of the stairs. I didn’t have any sand images I could use, so I used AI to create an image to get the sand and then composited it into the image.

I think there are problems with it, but I like the idea of it. The bright tree and building are gone, but I don’t think the scene I put in worked. It could have been better. Something to work on.

Here is a gallery with all the images so far. One more to go.

  1. Well I really like this!! As a viewer, I believe this to be just what I am looking at.
    Nice work!!

  2. Leanne–I like this! I am imagining it on our beaches here. But instead of walking out onto a fishing pier, the fishermen would have to carry their tackle up the stairs and then this would open to one beautiful large pier way out over the water.
