Here we are up to week 4 already. I can’t believe how quickly it has gone. I must say this challenge is better when you pick a good image. Each week I have had a lot of fun working out what I was going to do to each one. The header photo above shows what I did to the image last week.
So, quickly, this challenge is a nice one to push you with processing or thinking outside the box. If you want more information on this challenge or want to join us, you can find information here.
Like I do each week we will start with the original image.
I haven’t really done a lot to the actual image or the stairs or whatnot and for me the focus has usually been on that part over on the right that is so bright. If you have been following along this month you know that area bothers me. Each week I’ve tried to do something to remove the distraction and this week is no different.
This week I had a few ideas but in the end I decided to do this.
This is part of an idea I had originally, but wasn’t sure if I could do it. This isn’t exactly what I had in mind, but the idea was in the clouds.
Last week I put the stairs near the beach, but this week I wanted it to look like it was up in the sky. I had this idea of the ladder at the top of the Faraway Tree that would go to the different lands as they came to the tree. The lands that were on the clouds. So who knows what you will find when you go up those stairs. If you were like me when you read the books the land you wanted to see the most is the Land of Sweets or the Land of Take What You Want. The one you really didn’t want to get up to was the Land of Topsy Turvy. Some were great and others not so much.
I did much the same as I did last week, but instead of a beach scene I just put clouds all around. I did also remove some of the building on the left. Then I had to build a barrier so no one would fall as I had to consider OH&S. I spent a bit of time trying to lighten it up so it would seem sort of misty, like clouds were around you.
It is very different to my usual images in that it is so light and bright and not dark. It does stand out from the other images.
So you can see them all again here is a gallery of all the images this month. Let me know which week was your favourite.
Next month there are 5 Thursdays, so not sure what to do with the 5th one. Will have to talk to my other One Four buddies and see what they want to do as well.
I hope you are enjoying this challenge. It is quite interesting what you can do to one image and how many different ways you can change it. I need to work out what my next image will be.
A very cool stairway! Great shots!!
I have to agree Dwight, though I hated climbing up them, hahaha, Thank you.
it would feel like going in circles! :>)
Yeah, they are so interesting.
The clouds are nice, but if I had to pick I’m drawn to the black and white. All are very creative. Nice work.
Thank you Donna, that is good to hear, I do love that one too.
I like the clouds more than last week’s waterfall
Thank you IJ, I think I agree that this one is better too.
The black and white……. the contrast of shapes, no distractions.
Fair enough Geoff, thank you for letting me know.
Outstanding image, Leanne. Great variation and a nice way to wrap up the series. Excellent editing.
Thank you Joanne, glad you liked it, interesting process for me.
Good morning Leanne 🙂
I love the idea and direction that you took this week… I used to love those books too.. very much childhood favourites of mine.
Great imagination and yes, I’d love to go up those stairs and see!
I’ve so enjoyed being a part of the One Four again and even though I don’t think I’ll be round next month, I think week 5 should be/could be something different – something crazy or really different.. just a thought.
Thanks so much to you and Joanne for hosting.
Hello Robyn, nice to hear from you again.
The Faraway Tree was the first real book I ever read, I loved it so much. I have to admit that going in that direction was something I really wanted to do from the start, just need time to work out how. Thank you.
I’m so glad you have enjoyed being part of it and we look forward to when you want to join us again. Yeah, maybe the 5th one, though I was also thinking of just showing the starting image and talking about what I could do to it and then start the changes the following week, not really sure. I should talk to Joanne.
No need to thank us Robyn, it is a great idea for a challenge, such a shame that others aren’t joining us.
I think others will join in when they can Leanne.. a lot of people have commitments these days and possibly less time.
I definitely want to join in again when possible.. I’ve really enjoyed it and it really gets you thinking and experimenting!!
I like that you took this direction this week and that you knew you were going to do it 🙂
I guess we will see, I do enjoy seeing what I can do though, I have learned you have to have the right image.
We look forward to seeing you join us when you can Robyn. I agree it does get you thinking and you have to think outside of what you normally do too.
Thanks, it was fun trying to make it happen.
These are all very sharp, Leanne, but I share your feelings about that bright corner. I end up using the same concept — “if you can’t beat it, change it.”, if not with basic edits then with AI. I tend to like Photoshop’s sky replacement feature more than, say Luminar AI. The change seems more subtle and believable. Bravo!
Thank ou Popi, I hate bright parts that distract from the area you want people to look at. I am not overly impressed with the sky replacement feature, and end up doing it all myself. I haven’t tried Luminar really. Thank you so much.
