One Four Challenge – Sticks and stones at Arthur Creek Week 2

Week 2 with this image and I was starting to think that maybe I didn’t pick the right image for this challenge, but in the end I really liked what I was able to achieve with it.

I have used ON1 Photo RAW 2025 again, as I said I’m going to use it for each week this month and see what I can do. I have to admit when I started this weeks image I reset everything and then thought what now.

What now, lead me to their training videos, they have so many. I found one about how to brighten a dull image and thought I will follow along and do the same thing with my image. I will put the video at the end for you to see if you are interested. One thing I’ve been thinking about doing is some live videos on YouTube where I process photos and you can follow along and ask me questions. Do you think that is something any of you would be interested in?

Now before we get started, for those of you who are interested in what the One Four Challenge is, you can find out by going to this link for more information.

Let’s start as we always do with the original image.

As I said I didn’t know what to do with this image, and then as I was going through the ON1 videos I saw the one for fixing flat and dull images. Now let’s be honest, it is a dull and flat image, so I started watching the video.

As I watched, I played along and did everything that Dylan did to his image. I wasn’t that impressed with the first part, but then we got into doing some pretty cool stuff, and I loved it.

If you want to see what I did for part of it, go to 05:35 – Bonus Pro Tip: Dramatic lighting manually of the video and it will show you.

I could have left it there, but in the end, I decided to go one step further and added a preset. Now I wish I could remember what that preset was. Okay, I just went back and I think it was the preset World Traveller number 7, or WT7 for short.

Here are the results.

I think the preset really made the image go further, and I really like the outcome. What do you think?

I like how the focus is now off the logs, but you can still see them.  You notice the river and then the sky more.

Here is the before and after for you.

I’ve never been one for presets, but I like these, and I think I might have to see about making some of my own, but that is for the future.

I will finish it here with the gallery, with the original and the ones I’ve done so far.  The video of what I did follows it.

  1. Hi Leanne, I just finished watching the YouTube video from the post, and I am amazed at how much different those adjustments can make. I might have to look into the software. Thank you so much for posting this. It’s definitely a good idea to look at more creative ideas.

    1. It is amazing what you can do with it, I know I’ve only scraped the surface. I’m watching lots and lots of videos. I like that they have those too. YOu’re welcome, good to hear you are interested.

  2. I finally watched the video you shared and I thought it was informative and interesting.
I would be interested in watching videos of you processing Leanne 🙂

    1. They have some great videos, I’ve been watching a few and thinking how I can use that for my work.
That’s good to hear, I’m trying to work out the logistics right now. Thanks Robyn.

  3. Excellent wow fantastic 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  4. I don’t have that software but I can see absolutely that it’s made a real difference to this shot, lifting it from ‘well-composed but rather flat’, as you say, to an image full of depth and drama!

    1. I think the software did a good job too, I’ve been playing around with it so much, so is good to see what I can get with it. VEry flat image, thank you so much Sarah.

    1. You’re welcome Amy, I kind of enjoy this challenge, by the time you get to week four it really can be a challenge. Thank you.

  5. Hi Leanne,
This week’s version has a lovely tone and a very end of the day feel to it.
I really like the way the processing has brought out the sky and the sky’s reflections in the water.
    Nice work!

    1. Hey Robyn.
Glad you to hear that, I do love what happened with it.
Yeah that is exactly what I was thinking aobut it, thank you so much.

  6. I might come back to the video, but as you know, processing is so not my thing. So thanks, but the YouTube videos won’t be for me. But a great idea for the technically minded. Nevertheless, I do like your result this week. Very peaceful.

    1. That’s okay Margaret, I know how you feel about processing, I thought others might like it. Thank you, I’m glad to hear you like the results.

  7. Pretty good, Leanne. I like how you made the sky and the beach complement each other, with a very nice reflection on the water. Good work.

  8. The second edit is amazing. Like you, I don’t like presets. If I use one, it’s only as a starting point for more changes I want.

    1. Thank you Egidio, I was really happy with it. I sort of agree, but I would love to do my own and think that would be good.
