Starting a new year

Another year is ending and who knows what the year ahead will bring. It has certainly been a very strange couple of years.

We have seen the best of people and we have seen the worse. We have seen many selfless people and we have seen many selfish people all over the world. It does make you wonder how on earth humankind ever got through previous disasters that hit.

My approach was to do what I was told and stay home, which is exactly what I did. Now with Omicron making its way around the world our leader, if you can call him that, is saying that we should all take personal responsibility. I mean I don’t even get what that means. We know that people, if not told what to do, will do whatever they like. Omicron will still kill people, maybe not as many, but I don’t want to be responsible for passing it onto someone and then them dying.

Dave and I have decided to put ourselves into lockdown and stay away from others as much as we can. Though we do have to go out soon and get our booster shot.

Flowers with the Tamron Lens

Anyway, I thought I could end the year, in much the same way I started it, with some macro photos. Though these are not real macro photos, in that they weren’t taken with a macro lens. While I was away with the Tamron 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD lens I also wanted to see what it was like with close-ups of flowers and such that we found.

I have prepared some for you to see, so take a look at the gallery. I will end it here and just wanted to say thank you so much to all of you who have followed along with my blog. I know I have been a bit all of the place, but I’m trying to get back into blogging and sharing my world with you.

Happy New Year

All the best for the year ahead, let’s hope it is better than 2021.

  1. Wishing you a very happy new year. I love that you have started and ended things by sharing beautiful pictures . Please keep sharing more and stay safe 🙂

  2. Thank you Leanne. Wishing you all the best for 2022. Really happy I found you again so this year is already starting off on the right foot. And having purchased a Fujifilm X-T20 a couple of years, it’s a good thing I did!

    1. Thank you to you too, I hope 2022 is good to you. Oh I’m happy you found me too, I’m trying to blog more now too, I got too slack, hoping for at least 3 posts a week. I love Fujifilm, their cameras are so good. I look forward to hearing from you again Jen.

  3. Happy New Year, Leanne!

We have the same attitude as you do. Unfortunately, as a preschool teacher, I do have to go to work everyday and my kids have to go to school (thankfully in schools with universal mask mandates and they are fully vaccinated). Otherwise we will be living this Winter like we are back in lockdown. It is too cold here to socialize outdoors so we will just have to maintain friendships via screens. We will largely be in hibernation mode. I do not want it on my conscience that we were the vector that led to someone vulnerable becoming infected. My students are not eligible to be vaccinated so I feel an extra duty of care towards them, for instance.

    1. Thank you Laura, Happy New Year to you too and your family.
I’m glad to hear there are mask mandates where you work, It is crazy how people don’t wear them. I don’t think it is that much to ask really, hopefully it will be over soon. It is summer here and I hate going out when it is hot, so I really don’t mind being home. I agree about infecting others, I would hate myself if I was responsible for someone dying because of my actions. I think you are doing the right thing by your students, I wish there were more like you. You take care.

  4. I agree with your sentiment. It IS amazing that humanity is still surviving, although it seems that on the whole, nobody learned anything from the past 😞. Let’s hope for the best anyway. Happy New Year!

    1. I know I can’t believe it at times. Yeah, I have to agree, that it is a miracle really. My husband keeps saying that people have always been like this, but I don’t think they have. Yes, let’s hope for the best. Thank you Svetlana, and all the best for the year ahead.

  5. Happy New Year Leanne! How do you like that Tamron lens? It would be great not to have to change lenses in the field. For the Fuji, I currently have the 18 – 55, the 55 – 200 and the 80 macro. How heavy is Tamron lens. At 78 years, it’s difficult for me to carry a lot of weight. I do have a prime F/4 300 lens for my Nikon. It’s an old lens and heavy ( but does a good job.)

    1. Thank you Anne, all the best for the year ahead. I really like the Tamron lens, I think it does a great job. I mean it isn’t light, but not overly heavy. I like the range and being able to walk around with just one lens. If I could afford one, I would get it I think. I hope that helps.

  6. Another beautiful set of photos, Leanne! I love your work. I wish all the best and safety from the virus for you and your family in 2022. I think it’s a great idea so impose a lock down on yourselves!

    1. Thank you John, I hope you like the macro because I think I will be doing a lot more of it. Yeah, we think it is the best idea, lockdown and stay away. Take care John, all the best for the year ahead.
