The Preston Train Station – Another new station for Melbourne

Last week I showed you the new train station that was built at Reservoir and this week I have another one for you. Preston Station is two stops from the other and was also rebuilt.

Again, it was rebuilt because the station is right next to a major road and they wanted to remove the level crossing so the tracks had to be raised and therefore they needed a new station. The line this station is on had quite a few new stations built. On the line closest to me, only one station was replaced.

I don’t know if I said last week that all the stations are different. Which is sort of exciting. A whole heap were built in the sixties and they all looked the same, so it is nice that more thought was put into these.

I hope you want to see more of them.

I have to say something about WordPress and I need to know if I am the only one who is having this problem. I’ve been leaving comments on blogs and when I press send the screen goes all white and I get a message saying that the comment couldn’t be sent or is lost or something. I can’t remember.

I don’t get what is going on. I don’t know if it is because I have a self hosted blog or if maybe WP just doesn’t like me. It makes leaving comments so hard. It doesn’t happen all the time, but enough times that it drives me mad. I yell every time it happens. 🙃🫤

  1. Thanks for responding to my comment, Leanne. I couldn’t see a ‘Reply’ button to reply to your comment. Anyway, I haven’t seen a lot of the newer train stations. Maybe at some point.

Strangely, I didn’t get notified of your comment until I came back here. It’s also a thing with other blogs. Hopefully WordPress fixes things.

    1. Very weird stuff is happy with WP, I’m really struggling today with it.
I’ve seen a few of them, but hoping to get to see a lot more.

  2. I don’t know if it’s reassuring or maddening to learn that I am not having a problem with leaving comments. And, herewith, my comment about your photos of this new station. With your musings about colour/black & white in mind, I think: Ah, I am so glad these photos are in colour! But then I do wonder if they’d still be striking in B&W: the drama of stark geometry.

    1. I don’t know either Penny, it has been very annoying for me, then again it hasn’t happened for a couple of days so hopefully it has been fixed. I have to agree, I don’t think you would get the full effect of the station if it was in black and white. YOu would see the shapes, but that is all really. Thank you Penny.

  3. It is exciting when you see a new station. Each one very distinct. Beautiful images as usual, Leanne. It’s not just you. My comments not posting on blogs happens now and then – and on your blog too. Usually when I write a comment on a blog and hit comment, the page sort of loads and there’ll be a pop up or something asking me to subscribe. Sometimes not at all and the page just freezes. And sometimes I’ll refresh the page and see my comment. Very strange.

    1. There are lots of them Mabel, have you been out to see any of them? Thank you.
I am starting to see it isn’t me, they have really messed up really, I hope they get it fixed soon.

  4. I’m having a mare trying to comment on posts this morning. WordPress either throws up a message saying this comment can’t be posted, with no reason why. Tells me I’m not logged in, when I am or just freezes me out. I found that if I copy the message and keep trying, eventually it will post the comment. Those station colours are great. Hopefully, I’ll now be able to post this 🙂

    1. It sounds like a problem for everyone. It is just annoying what you have to do just to leave a comment for someone. It is very colourful this one, they aren’t all like that, but this one well. Look the comment worked, thank you Steve.

    1. It is so annoying and I really hope they do fix it soon. I wouldn’t even know who to report it too. I hope they are away of it. Thanks Carol.

  5. Oh, yes. I have received that message on numerous blogs. I have taken to 1) copying my commens on the offchance that it doesn’t go through or 2) totally forgetting to do that and posting something much shorter or 3) just giving up and moving on. It is frustrating!!

    1. I have done similar too Lois, when I remember to copy it doesn’t happen, that is what I find. Someone else suggested using the reader to comment as it always works there, so maybe I will. Incredibly frustrating.

  6. Love the Preston Station pics Leanne. I’ve shared your post on my Facebook page to show the folk in Preston, UK that they should expect a bit more creativity with their architecture. We usually get served up with boring box-like buildings built to a minimum cost!

    1. Thank you Paul. I have to admit they have done well with the train stations, as usually get those same boring box like buildings too.

  7. First, you are not the only one unable to comment on posts. WordPress is a lousy platform. Now for this beautiful train station. Wow! Great architecture and photograph.

    1. I don’t like saying it is a lousy platform, I think compared to all the others, like Instagram and FAcebook we still have it good. Let’s hope they fix the problems soon. Thank you so Anne, it is very colourful. Really stands out, you certainly can’t miss it.

  8. Railway stations are always fascinating because they tend to reflect the architecture of the time so a railway line can go from art deco to modern in a few miles. But if you want to see how they can be used to encourage the populace look no further than the Moscow Metro. My favourite is Ploshid Revolutsi with its sculptures depicting the russian people. A Hunter with his alsation (you have to rub its nose for luck as you pass by), a woman with a gun etc. Tveraskaya has mosaics in the ceiling showing pictures of WW2 aircraft.

  9. WP first. Yes, it’s happening to lots of us, even – for me – on blogs where I comment very often. A blogging pal gave me a tip which works. Copy your answer before pressing ‘send’, then when it doesn’t send properly, cut and paste your comment in again, press ‘send’, and voila! It works. The other way is to comment via the Reader, which always works. But it’s a right pain. As to your Station series, yes, I’m loving these energetic shots. Melbourne must have lots of money to engage in such considered station construction!

    1. I have been the copying when I remember, usually when I do there is no trouble and when I forget it happens, so annoying. Yeah, I might have to start using the reader more for it. That’s great to hear, glad you are enjoying them Margaret. I don’t know about lots of money, but you know it is more about can’t keep cars waiting. They have to keep using that fossil fuel. Thank you Margaret.
PS I think the plan was for 50 stations, but not sure how many they actually did.

    1. Very colourful, i hope they don’t age too quickly. It is so weird, no idea what is going on, hopefully they fix it soon. Thank you Jean.
