Up for Discussion: New Beginning

In the past I’ve tried to work out what everyone wants for these Up for Discussion posts, but do I really know? This is a new beginning for them. It is easy for me to just guess and do what I want. However, I need some direction.

Up for Discussion: New Beginnings

These discussions can be about many things, camera gear, reviews, working out processing or even discussions about current events and trends in photography.

I can open up guest posting, if you would like to hear from other people. Would you prefer it all to come from me.

What type of content would you like to see here?

Here is your chance to tell me what you would like to see.

  • Is there a topic you wish I would do?
  • Maybe there is a previous post you would like me to update?
  • Is there some gear you would like my opinion on?
  • Do you want help with software, working out what to use?
  • Would you like posts that you can all contribute to?

There are a few opinion.

From me

I would like to do more reviews and help you with your photography. I want this to be a place for you learn, be inspired and grow. There should be something here for everyone who loves photography.

This is your opportunity to tell me. I want to know what you want to see here. Don’t keep me in the dark.

Leave your thoughts in the comments and I will respond to you. We will see where we can go together.

Image

This is an image I took about 2 weeks ago during a day long 1on1 session. I have so many photos to process from that day, and am planning on doing a weekend wandering post about it as well. It was a great day.

The image is a 2 minute exposure taken with the Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 13 stop ND filter. I was using the D850 with the Nikon 24-70mm lens on my new Sirui W-1204 waterproof carbon fibre tripod.

  1. Hi I would like to learn more about night photography. I sometimes struggle with fireworks etc.

  2. The area I’m personally struggling is in actually getting a photography business off the ground, and I would love to hear your insights in that area: how you started attracting clients for your photo walks, ambassadorships, getting your work in local galleries, etc. There’s a lot of information out there on how to start, and individual tips on how to improve, how much to charge, etc. But I’m in an awkward middle ground, and there isn’t much on making that leap between hobbyist and professional.

    1. I don’t think this is something I can help you with Brianna. While I do make money from my photography, I can’t live on it, let’s say I am lucky I am married. It is a lot of hard work and lots of disappointments. The reality is, so many people want to do the same and so many people fail. I probably should give up, and have thought about it many times. I just don’t know what else I would do, which is why I keep going. Though, I suspect that what makes me more money is my knowledge, not really my photography. So I am afraid, I can’t help you with this one Brianna.

    2. I hope you don’t give up. The industry is constantly changing, and while you can’t live off of your photography, you are still successful. Many of us would love to be in your shoes, so you certainly have something going for you.

    1. I have seen that, I keep getting emails from them, and then I forget. Not sure it is true, I’m sure there are other blogs much more popular than mine. Though, I’m not going to change the blog, it was more to get ideas for the discussion posts.

  3. I love the post processing that you did with this image and with others where you combine black and white with tones of gold. I would like to know how you did this post processing. I would be interested in your workflow–so from capture to printing.

    1. Thank you Karen, I don’t teach my post processing, mainly because it is different every time. I am starting a new membership site to help people learn more about being a fine art photographer or artist. You can email me if you are interested.
