Visiting the Blue Lotus Water Gardens

It isn’t the first time I have been to the Blue Lotus Water Gardens at the Yarra Junction, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Visiting the gardens is always good and there is so much to photograph. They are only open for a few months of the year, so I need to make the most of it while I can.

Visiting the Blue Lotus Water Gardens

There is something very romantic about waterlilies. I don’t know exactly what it is, but perhaps it has something to do with Monet and his waterlily paintings. Even the idea of these gardens being like Monet’s gardens is appealing.

They are very large and you can walk around quite a bit. There are so many different types. Some you can get close to, while others are too far away for the macro lens. The images in this post were taken with my 105mm macro lens and my 70-300mm. I went there last year, but I had to use my 80-200mm. It is a beautiful lens, but you have to be around 3m away from your subject to get the subject in focus. It wasn’t great for this sort of photography.

I took over 600 photos. It was hard as there were so many wonderful flowers everywhere. It was really hard to stop taking photos. Though, it was even harder working out which images to use to post here. I think there will be a few posts from there and I hope you won’t mind that.

If people want to go, I would recommend getting there early. It is amazing how busy it gets, especially on the weekend. I’ve only ever been on the weekend, but am hoping to get a visit in during the week before it closes for 2019.

So, going through all the images quickly, I have 7 to show you. I will do some other posts when I have time to work on more.

    1. Thank you Nora. I am doing well. I have started my new project and I’m really excited about it. I have a website for it and a FB page, now I just need to get some work done for it. It is not photography at all, but I am writing, which I am really enjoying. It is nice getting back to fiction writing again. It will be interesting to see where it takes my photography.

  1. Great lily photos. Using vignette and other post processing brings out some of the colours and mood in your photos Leanne. Love them

  2. The first in the series is almost disturbing. It is beautiful. But it also looks like something that would eat your face off if given the chance. 🙂
