Weekend Wanderings – Tesselaar Kabloom Flower Festival

1sml - Sunflowers 2

For Weekend Wanderings this week I thought we might do something different. I did go to the Tesselaar Kabloom Flower Festival, I did take photos, but they were for something else. I went there with my friend Suzzanna and she has supplied the photos for the post today.

Visiting the Tesselaar Kabloom Flower Festival

We found out about this at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show when we were there the previous weekend. It seems the Kabloom festival is fairly new and opened on Good Friday. It closes on the 15th of April if you want to go, more details will be at the end.

I have never been here before. They have a big tulip festival in spring and I was going to go once. When we got near the entrance we could see the massive line of cars, so we kept going.  It is very busy.

We were there early on Friday, but it was clear that it was going to be popular.

Taking photos

Never being there before I was unsure how it would be for photos. There were lots of beds everywhere, but there were ropes around them which meant that it would be very hard to get any macro photos. Apparently when the tulip festival is on you can go into the rows and get close to the flowers. It seems for this flower show they were keeping us away from the flowers. I’m sure there was a reason, but it made it hard to get many close up photos.

Suzzanna took most of her photos with her telephoto lens, the Tamron 18-400mm lens. Me, I decided to do something completely different.

Time-Lapse

The sun was very bright and I knew that I wouldn’t enjoy doing any macro photos. I don’t like how harsh direct sunlight can be on flowers.

I have recently borrowed a heap of Syrp time-lapse equipment and this seemed like the perfect day to try it out. I was experimenting first with the Genie Mini from Syrp. It was a panning tool and would allow me to give more a view of my time-lapses.

It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but the following video gives you an idea of what was there.

It was a beginning. I have a lot to learn about doing this. I have plenty of time to do that, I hope.

Weekend Wanderings at Tesselaar

As stated earlier it is open until the 15th of April. It is school holidays, so be prepared for lots of kids there. There is parking available. Plus there are also lots of food places to get something to eat. The veggie burgers were really good and so was the coffee. It was nice to sit in a little garden area to eat.

It cost $25 per adult for entry and children under the age of 16 are free.

  1. Hello Leanne! I’m back from an amazing trip to the Southern Hemisphere, and making some blog visits. I spent 48 quick hours in Melbourne. So wish I’d managed to connect with you ahead of time to let you know I’d be there!
Love that time lapse. The clouds are amazing and add so much to the beauty of the flowers

    1. So disappointed we couldn’t connect, I was hoping we would. Oh well. I hope you enjoyed your time here.

      Thank you Laurie.

    1. We are kind of lucky in that we get flowers almost right through the year, which is really nice. Glad you enjoyed seeing them Peter, thank you.
