A bit of a catch up

It has been almost a week since I got back from Tasmania and I have landed back in Victoria running. I’m trying to finish a photography job I have for the local council and I’m doing an online course to help work out how to use Facebook. If you already follow me on there you might have noticed I’m posting more and sharing more. I want to build it up, and here as well, so I’m going to offer some new things.

Photo Tips

Working out what to do here has been hard, I still want to do more of the art side, but I want to do more in the way of helping people to take better photos. I am going to start some posts about photo tips. Ways that people can take better photos. I might even start sharing them, so you can send me your tips, with links of course, or if you have posts that you have done, I can take a look, send me the link.

If there are small things you want answered, also let me know. If I can’t help we can throw it out to everyone and see if someone has the answer.

My email is leanne@leannecole.com.au

Photo Critiquing

I have been thinking about this for a while, and I thought I might start critiquing photos one day a week. People can email me their photos, low res of course, and I will pick up to 5 to talk about. They will be posted anonymously, so the only person who knows whose image it is me and the person who took it. If you would like this, then follow the rules for Monochrome Madness about image sizes and where to send them. I will also announce it on Facebook, and do some there as well.

The goal is not to be nasty, and it is just my opinion, so if I critique a photo and you don’t agree, then that is fine. We all have different opinions.

Let me know if you think it is a good idea?

Monochrome Madness

It is on again tomorrow, so if you haven’t sent your photo then you only have a couple of hours after this is posted to do so. Hurry.

Finally

I think that is enough for today, I hope you can keep up. I want to give back, and I want to build this to be a great place for photography. I need this to work with my FB page as well. Here is the link to that if you don’t know it, Leanne Cole Photography.

When you go to the top of Mt Wellington you might find some snow, you might find it snowing, which we did. It was also very windy, so the snow was biting. The sky was so grey, infortunately. However, the rock formations were interesting, especially with snow packed around them. I’m a novice when it comes to snow. It is so fascinating to me, so while the sky is boring, I liked it for the rocks and snow.

    1. If the images are critiqued properly you should feel good, it shouldn’t be something to be afraid of Julie. It should always be given as a way for the person to improve.
      Thank you Julie.

    1. Bound to be some that won’t like any criticism, no matter how mild, especially since you will likely gain new readers from doing more. People are invested in their photos. Still, I think it’s a good idea. Otto von Munchow does this occasionally on In Flow and always says something positive first but even then I’be seen a few who weren’t happy. If I might suggest, stick to regulars at first, people who are familiar with your way of seeing and photographing.

    2. That’s very true, though you would hope that people wouldn’t send photos if they were going to be like that. You would think.
They are invested and I am usually very gentle and if I think there is a photo that isn’t good at all, I probably won’t critique it. See how I go. So are you offering to send me some Robert? If yes, don’t send anything that you really love, I have found if people really love an image then getting critiqued can be even harder. Thanks.

    3. I might. I don’t know. I usually know what’s wrong with photos I take. When I have one I question but can’t answer, probably. You’re right about photos people love.

    4. I might ask a few people I know if they can send some. People I know who won’t be offended, well I hope they won’t be. lol

  2. I bought my first camera because I wanted to capture the texture of snow as it melts. Winter was almost over by then, and the next few winters were too warm for snow. That said, I like the contrasting textures here. The stone is terrific.

    1. Thank you, I rarely see snow, I’m lucky if I see it once a year, I have to travel to see it. I’m sure you will get snow again, hopefully not too much that it is crazy.
