Looking back at landscapes for an older challenge for Lens-Artists Challenge #373

Through Brazilian Eyes is our host this week, and Egidio has gone back to earlier challenges.  This week, he is asking us to show LANDSCAPE images. Shouldn’t be hard, I think we would all have landscape images of some sort. I honestly think the biggest problem is going to be not to show too many.

I did look up the definition for what defines a landscape, and my interpretation was to stick to all images taken within the boundaries of water or the coast. So I chose not to include any seascape images. I will show water, but the water is inland. This is just what I decided to do.

This first image is part of Cairn Curran Reservoir here in Victoria. This is part of a dam that was built about 100 years ago, but recently, when we went through a dry period, the pylons for an old rail bridge were revealed, plus some old fence posts that haven’t done so well under the water. I think I took this image around 2015, and every time I have been back since they are covered or mostly covered in water.

Next is an old car that I have photographed quite a few times, though it has now been vandalised more, and you can’t get this shot anymore. I have no idea what make the car is or how long it has been there, or even how it got there. However, it is a great subject for photos.

This is near me, and I guess you wouldn’t think you could get a landscape image in a city, but here you are. Living in the green belt of a city means there are lots of places to get great landscapes without having to travel far.

I tried to find a typical or maybe unique Australian landscape and immediately thought of Coober Pedy. Such an amazing landscape there with its very barren outlook. Almost no trees, but the earth has so many colours, and if you get a chance to photograph it at sunrise, well, it is just perfect. I think many people think this is what Australia is really like.

I decided I had to include at least one landscape from my trip to New Zealand, and I chose the trees in the water at Glenorchy. I had seen so many photos of them, but had such a hard time working out where they were on Google Maps. Imagine my surprise when we stopped at the pier there and found the trees right beside them.

Finally, one last landscape, but from Yosemite this time. I had to include one of these. I think this is the quintessential image that many people get from there. This is not the best image of it, sadly. There had been fires in the park when we were there, and the smoke haze was bad. I did my best to make it a good shot, but I know it isn’t. I like the composition, but the quality isn’t great, but I still wanted to include it.

That’s it from me, I didn’t want to show any more. Believe me, I could have shown hundreds, but I have restrained myself. Of course, then I went and read Egidio’s post, and he said to show no more than 6, seems like great minds and all that.

Thank you so much for being our host this week, Egidio.  Lovely challenge, and I would love it if others go and see his post. The link is at the start of the post.

  1. Oh my, Leanne…gorgeous landscapes, and as always so well captured and handled with utmost skill. You bring life to dead things like that car, and makes them shine. My favourite – must be the trees at Glenorchy. Wish I knew when I was in NZ! You are a treasure trove, leanne.

    1. Thank you so much Ann-Christine. I think one of the only reasons I think social media is good for are for things like this. I had seen lots of photos so I really wanted to find them.

  2. Leanne, what magnificent landscapes you selected. Your edits and colors are always very striking and super pleasing to my eye. This was no exception. The water reflections are especially wonderful.

  3. Beautiful work as always Leanne. Your opening image is my favorite made even more so by the story and the fact that it is now under water. Also loved your Yosemite image – I think the haze adds to, rather than detracts from, the scene.

    1. Thank you Tina. I think I was very lucky that day that I took that image, we found the place by chance. I don’t know about the haze, but it was nice to get it.

  4. Your style is unmistakable in this gallery. I don’t think I’ve commented on it before, but your WordPress theme really complements your style. My favorite is that old car, but your photo from New Zealand is a powerful demonstration of masterful composition, capturing a mountain reflection and utilizing those foreground trees to frame the scene.

    1. Thank you John, that is good feedback about my theme, I like it and good to hear you do too. The old car is great, I like what you have said about the New Zealand shot too.

  5. The New Zealand photo is my favorite. The trees, the reflections, the lighting from the mountain top–that is one beauty of a photo, Leanne.
