Another week for Monochrome Madness and it is time for another theme. This time Sarah from Travel with Me chose our theme and wanted to do TREES.
I mean what a great theme, who doesn’t love trees? Or perhaps it is just another one of those things to add to the list of things photographers love to take photos of.
Photographing trees reminds me of a story that my grandmother told me years ago. She used to love bus trips around Australia and she liked to take photos. She also loved gardening so when she was travelling she used to really enjoy photographing trees. Apparently, on one trip, she saw a tree from the bus and went to the driver to get him to stop so she could photograph it. The bus stopped and she proudly showed us the photo. Not sure I would have liked to be on a bus trip with her. I could imagine myself just shrinking with embarrassment.
When Sarah first told me she wanted to do trees I remembered how when I went to Tasmania back in 2017 with my infrared camera all I wanted to do was photograph trees. I think my friend got sick of me saying look there is a tree, look there is a tree. We didn’t always stop, I don’t like doing that too much especially when we knew we had places to be.
There are lots of photos that I haven’t processed from that trip and I’ve tried to find ones that I haven’t done before. There might be a couple that I have, but I hope you forgive me if there are. I’m hoping these are all new ones to you all.
When I see these I really miss my infrared camera. I can’t wait to get the converted Fujifilm X-T3 back and get out with it. It has been 3 weeks and I should have it in two weeks. I’m trying to be patient, not something I am good at. It is horrible when places are so busy they can’t fix what I need straight away. Just kidding.
I want to thank Sarah for being our host this week and would love everyone to go and look at what she does with the theme. I would also love to see lots and lots of monochrome trees on the internet this week.
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then I can use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to my monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. We have also included a list of themes that will be coming in the future so if you want to be able to plan ahead you can. They aren’t in order, but will happen. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
Also if you would like to host one week or more, let me know.
Here I am at last with a few trees local to me: https://margaret21.com/2024/07/27/seeing-trees-in-black-white/

Yeah, Sarah did well with this theme.
Very very nice post 😊thanks for sharing with you 🎉
Thank you.
Beautiful light on your trees, Leanne!
Thank you Elke.
Trees seem to be made for infrared, don’t they?! They look so ethereal 😀 Thanks for joining in and with such lovely photos!
They do Sarah, they really do. You’re welcome and thank you for being our host Sarah.
I like how you have found isolated/separate trees as subject so your photos are so uncluttered part otherworldly, part snowscapes – I can understand your impatience for the camera mend Leanne and thanks for inspiring our monochromes
Thank you Laura, there are lots of places in Australia where you can find trees like that. Though not snowscapes, there are very few places where we get snow. The look is because of the infrared. I think that is why I love it. You’re welcome, thank you for joining us, I hope to see you do others too.
These are beautifully atmospheric. I have some tree-less monochromes I want to show today (maybe tomorrow?) but I’ll have to see if I can find a tree or two for you and Sarah before the week’s out.
Atmospheric is a great word for infrared Margaret. That would be great if you can find some trees Margaret, I love it when other participate with us. Thank you.
I’ll see what I can come up with before the weekend
I look forward to it Margaret.
interesting, because it looks like they have snow on them, due to being in monochrome
I think that is part of the reason why I like using infrared Beth. Thank you.

Fabulous gallery Leanne
Thank you Brian.
I love these, and the stories behind them.
That’s great Dawn, I was hoping to do something a bit different. Thank you.
Beautiful!
Thank you Egidio.
Thanks for sharing this idea Anita
No problem.
Lovely trees Leanne. I especially like the first photo. That tree is so graceful. I love to photograph trees, but I don’t think I have any processed in monochrome. I’ll have to do a search and see what I can do.
Thank you Anne, Glad you like it. Doesn’t take long to convert them Anne, I hope you can join us.
Thanks for sharing this idea
No problem.
Your grandmother had the driver stop the bus??!! I love that!
She sure did, I still can’t believe it. It’s so funny.
Beautiful photos, Leanne!
Thank you John.
