This week we have a new host for Monochrome Madness and she has picked emotions. When she first told me she wanted to do this, I was a bit puzzled as to what I would do for it. It has been a struggle and I’ve known about it for a few weeks.
Claire is our host this week and you can go to her blog, MRS. CLAIRE GUTKNECHT, to find out more about the challenge of Emotions.
I tried to think about what to do, but I don’t photograph people. Well I have in the past, but it isn’t something I like to do. So I wondered what else I could do. Then I wondered if emotions could be evoked through looking at an image. So I thought we could test it.
This is an image from New Zealand and was taken on a boat cruise. It was a lovely morning, but rain was threatening us a lot.
This is a long exposure taken at one of the Pink Lakes up in the Mallee. I almost didn’t recognise it because of the water, usually there isn’t any.
This was taken down near Flinders at a blow hole, though I’ve never really seen it blowing, if that makes sense. Maybe it doesn’t do it anymore.
Cape Otway Lighthouse. You never really know what the weather will be when you go there. It seems on this visit it was a lovely sunny day.
What do you think? Can an image evoke emotions in you? What emotions do you think you get from these images?
Thank you Claire for being our host this week.

Thanks for this challenge, Leanne. Here is my post: https://fakeflamenco.com/2024/05/02/monochrome-madness-7-emotions/
You’re welcome Rebecca.
That lighthouse! An emotion of safety, for sailors in the pre-electronic era; an emotion of delight, for me right now. Delight in the multi-chrome gradations of this supposedly monochrome image; delight in that blazing vertical against the serried horizontals; delight, especially in that walkway, with its arrow of black bisecting the white railings and drawing me forward…
I get what you mean Penny about lighthouses. There is also something romantic about them. Thank you so much.
I like the composition. I should think about using it more.
Thank you Ziggy.
Great Photographs. I think the first one is the one that creates the most emotional response for me. The sky really draws the eye and rain is obviously threatening. Enough to make you shiver and wonder where your umbrella is.
That is great RJ, I like the emotions the image brings out.
I love the mood on these, Leanne.
Thank you Sofia.
Absolutely stunning images!
Thank you Egidio.
Leanne, I just published an article for this Monochrome Madness:

That’s great Egidio, I will get to it, but time is running out, so I will try and look soon.
Wow! Leanne, you’ve truly captured some breathtaking photos!
Thank you Claire.
High adrenaline and pure drama! Gorgeous photos.
Thank you Egidio.
I saw your other comment, so I can delete that one if you like.
The other comment contains the link, though.
NO, there was another one, doesn’t matter.
Lovely, moody images Leanne.
Thank you Anne.
The lighthouse looks very beautiful, Leanne, the details are very sharp. 😊
Thank you John, it is a great lighthouse to photograph.
