After my previous post I thought it might be good to take a look at some of the lighthouses that I have been too. Some I have been to many times, while others only once.
I think there are 5 lighthouses along that way. Basically from Point Lonsdale all the way to Cape Nelson. It is interesting how they are all along the same coastline yet they are all so different.
They are all still used, I believe, though the one at Cape Otway has another electronic light set on the cliff in front of it now. The one that is the most in use is the one at Point Lonsdale as it is on one of the heads that leads into Port Phillip Bay and to Melbourne. You can tell by all the antennas and such that are on it. It is the closest one to Melbourne and the one that I have probably been to the most.
I have been to the one at Aireys Inlet many times and again, not too long a drive from Melbourne. It is a wonderful lighthouse and is pretty much as it always has been.
Cape Otway can be done in a day, but you have to pay to enter into the grounds. I have done that a few times, not always sure it is worth it, but I guess that is up to you or those that want to go. I jsut wish the cafe there was better. I should mention it is a long day.
The last two are too far away for a day trip and would require accommodation which is probably why I have only ever been to them once each. I would love to visit both again, but accommodation around both is pretty expensive. I do hope to get back there at some stage though.
I hope you enjoy seeing these lighthouses. Maybe someone can explain why us photographers seem to love them so much.

Fantastic selection of lighthouses, Leanne π The monochrome format really heightens the drama of the landscape surrounding these often isolated beacons π Here’s mine: https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2023/09/22/bridge-underside-monochrome-madness/
Thank you Jez. Monochrome is really good for that drama. π
Monochrome makes the sky look more dramatic!
That’s true Robert, thank you.
Wow..beautiful shots Leanne! I always think of lighthouses as a sign of hope! I guess in old days when sailors would be on the seas for long times, seeing a lighthouse would fill them with so much joy!

Thank you PR, that is an interesting idea, I wonder. I always think of turmoil and such with them, danger danger kind of thing. I don’t know.
Thanks for sharing this image. Anita
Thanks
I’ve been a bit preoccupied with blog problems to do an offering this week. But, I find myself unable to register a like on your site. The difficulty is undoubtedly at my end.
Sorry to hear you are having problems Brian, yeah, I’ve been having similar problems with other people’s sites as well. I think there was an upgrade, that maybe has screwed up some things. Thanks
Beautiful!!
Thank you Nora.
Cape Otway is a great lighthouse π
It is Brian, and very photogenic, I love the walkway up to it. Thank you.
I have no idea why but I certainly love a lighthouse. Yours are perfect, Leanne.
Here is my post:

I’m the same Sofia, and I have no idea why either. Thank you.
Dear Leanne,
the lighthouses are perfect for BW pictures. They look great, especially the first one with this little stripe of light on the low horizon.
All the best

I have to agree I think they are great subjects for B&W.That strip of light was the sunrise, one time when I get there really early. Thank you.
