Monochrome Madness – Over and along the Yarra River in Melbourne

Another free week and I think I am liking these weeks. I really am enjoying going through my archives to see which images I can convert to monochrome. For our last free week I did some from the city and today I have some more that I did back then.

These were all taken in the city over different times and they are from different parts of the Yarra River. The river really is my muse I think. I have photographed along it many times over the years and now that I have seen how much I like doing images in monochrome I may have to go back. I wonder if I knew that I was going to do the photos in monochrome it would make me photograph what I see differently. I might have to test it out.

Here are my images for this week, I hope you like them.

For our next theme Dawn will be hosting us from The Day After and she has chosen SPRING TIME. It will be a great challenge for all those in the Northern Hemisphere, but I fear it will be a difficult one for all of us who live in the Southern Hemisphere. We are 6 months away from spring, I guess I will have to take Brian’s advice again and be creative.

Participating in Monochrome Madness

If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then we can all use the reader to see what you post.

You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to the host’s monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.

Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.

  1. I adore your monochrome citiscapes – they are incredibly stylish and clean and so impressive.
Again I’ll have to go small.

  2. I think water always looks interesting in monochrome so I can see why you’re finding these river shots so worth converting. It might be interesting to do as you say and go back to take photos with B&W already in your mind. I find I do that from time to time, whereas with other images it’s only later that I realise they could look good if converted. I’m taking a week off from monochrome work this week but will join you and Dawn for ‘spring’ next week. I’m confident you’ll be able to find photos from past springs to convert 😀

    1. I agree Sarah, water is a great subject. I think I really want to do that. I might get my camera to show the images in black and white too. I noticed you hadn’t posted, but I look forward to seeing you next week, thank you Sarah. I am going to do something a little different. We don’t get spring like most places, I wouldn’t even know how to photograph it even it was spring.
