When you overlook images and don’t understand why

So yesterday I was telling about how I took some photos with my old infrared camera and it made me believe that it wouldn’t be any good for macro flowers. Do you remember?

I decided to go back to those photos and take another look, especially now that I love macro infrared flowers.

As soon as I looked at them again I thought to myself, what was I thinking, these will work. I think I might have to go through lots of my past photos and do a rethink.

I have spent the afternoon processing these for you so you can tell me whether you think they work in infrared as well. These were taken in a rainforest where there was a waterfall in Tasmania back in 2017.

I guess it just shows that you never know and the other thing is that it is always good to go back to what you have already shot. You might find the treasures that you overlooked at the time.

  1. No telling what we expect when we look at our photos for the first time, but I love the way the ferns look. Infrared did good for this rainforest, Leanne.

    1. That is so true Lois, first look should never be the last. The ferns came out so much better than I thought, I want to take the IR camera to more rainforests now. Thank you Lois.

  2. You’re right, Leanne.

When I go back to images I took 10-12 years ago, I often find gems. They just need re-editing slightly because I lived in a very dark apartment back then and I find my images were edited badly because of that.

Even in my light-filled current apartment, I know that any images edited at night will need reviewing the next morning in good daylight.

    1. Thank you Vicki, glad you agree with me.
Good to hear you do the same too. It is good that you have worked out how and when to edit your images.

  3. A delightful discovery, no? The same things happens to me from time to time, not just with my photos but with my poetry as well. Sometimes I come across one and thing ‘I wrote this? Dang. It’s not too bad.’ HA!

  4. I’ve actually incorporated the “Going Back And Looking Again” into my process. Looking at something with fresh eyes is a good idea.

    1. It is a good thing to do Matt, I do it from time to time, but for these ones I remember when I took them I thought that rainforest was no good for IR, but I think I was wrong. Thank you Matt.
