Going way back to when I really got serious about digital photography

I first got serious about photography in 1993, but with digital it took me a lot longer.

I had small digital cameras but got my first DSLR at the end of 2009. At that time I was photographing cycling and doing a little other in between. By 2012 I had given up the cycling and was just doing photography because I wanted to.

I thought it might be fun today to look back at some of those photos. These were taken in 2011 and 2012. It was also when I really started getting into processing images as well. I was learning a lot. It is always fascinating to go back and see where you started. See how much you have changed.

I hope you enjoy them. These were all taken up in the Mallee.

    1. Thank you Anne, though not quite from when I first started photography, but definitely when I really started using post processing.

  1. I started shooting with digital back in 2007, my family bought me a Kodak EasyShare C533 for Christmas in 2006. The first time I used it, I basically took photos of my apartment and myself for a few days to get used to the settings before heading outside with it. I’ve been using a variety of Pocket-sized digital cameras since then, including the Canon SX720HS I have now. But I bought my first (and so far only) DSLR about twelve years ago — a Nikon D5100. Over the years previous to all of that, I had a Pentax K1000, a Minolta 450si, and my mother’s old Minolta Something or Other. I started really getting into photography in 1994 — it was part of my Journalism program in College. We were taught a lot of darkroom techniques, and how to compose a shot (rule of thirds, etc.)…

Great shots, by the way. My own earliest digital shots, once I realized I could fill up and develop an SD card for free, were mostly of family and friends. I think it took me about a year before I was taking shots of stuff I’d consider to be good enough to show other people.

    1. Sounds like our paths were very similar Gabriel. I also had a Pentax K1000 my first SLR and then I went to Nikon. I did a lot of darkroom stuff back in the day, but I hated it, it used to drive me to distraction. I think digital and Photoshop were what made me really love it. I love digital so much.
I think many of my very early shots of digital from around 2000 to 2009 were the same. Unfortunately we lost heaps when the hard disk on my computer died. We lost so much. My husband didn’t think I needed a good back up system, he has changed his mind about that now. Thank you Gabriel for sharing your journey.

    1. Though we need to remember that by that stage I had been taking photos and creating images for almost 20 years. This was just when I really started with digital. Tahnk you Margaret.
