Lens-Artists Challenge #327 – The 4 elements plus one

Trying out Fujifilm lenses while in New Zealand

This week Sofia from Photographias wants us to address the four elements, but she decided that instead of doing the four ones we usually know about she also wanted us to add an extra one.

The four elements we mostly know are Earth, Air, Water and Fire., however, Sofia wanted us to do metal as well. You are going to have to go to her post to find out why, the link is just above.

I have thought about this all day and came really close to not doing it. It was the fire part that got me, how would I do that? Anyway, I figured it out. Let’s take a look at my 5 elements.

Earth

This was a no brainer for me, I just couldn’t resist showing the earth of Central Australia. It is sort of unique with its red colour and barren appearance.

Air

This was possibly the hardest one to show, but quickly I thought let’s make it more like wind and show some long exposures of clouds as the wind pushes them through the air. That’s my take.

Water

Water had to be the easiest, especially for me. I have no idea how many photos I have with water, thousands probably.

Fire

As I said this was possibly the hardest one for me. I knew I had photos of after bushfires, but not really fires. Then I found some of the steel wool fire I got to photograph once. Then there are the gas fires that go off every hour in front of the casino here.

Metal

I couldn’t resist showing how metal is after a fire and how destructive it can be. Then I found some sculptures that are also made of metal.

I guess that is what a challenge is all about, getting you to think and work out what you will do. I hope I was up to it.

Thank you, Sofia for this great one and for being our host. Please go and take a look at what she has done and don’t forget to link your post back to her if you join us.

  1. Love your take, Leanne – the red earth is mezmerising and your air photos wonderful. But all galleries are gorgeous. Fire is exceptional too. Wow.

  2. A Wonderful collection of photos. You have so many great photographs. Really interesting to see your take on the different elements and to reflect on how different Australia is to the UK.

    1. Thank you RJ, I’ve worked hard on my photos over the years. Yes, we are a very different country, though I was once told that Melbourne is the closest city to what London is like, not sure if that is true.

  3. what can I say that I haven’t said about your photos, you know what I think about them. I haven’t seen the uluru and never will, but it is so impressive. We are visiting Australia in February but we don’t have the time to visit there.

    1. Thank you so much Ritva. Probably just as well Ritva, it is so expensive to got there. YOu need lots of money. Where are you going?

    2. We are flying to Sydney, then to Adelaide from there we are going to rent a car see some places there and drive down towards Melbourne, make few stops, drive to Talbingo , Canberra and NSW coast , Melbourne depends if our friends have already moved there then, then we will visit the city again. Nothing is confirmed but the flights 😀 still thinking about what to see.

    3. That is the good thing here, there is always lots to see. ARe you going to go to Kangaroo Island while you are in South Australia? Sounds like a good trip.

  4. The steel wool fire is fantastic, thank you for sharing them with us. I had the same problem, not many fire photos which I thought was strange, at least for me. The metal gallery is my favourite, but they are all awesome.

    1. Thank you Sofia, I love the effect of steel wool, you don’t seem to see it much anymore. Sorry I did read the instructions properly and didn’t do what I was meant to.

  5. Great galleries as usual Leanne! I really enjoyed seeing the reds of the Australian landscapes 🙂 And I’m glad you included air even though it wasn’t on Sofia’s list, as your cloudscapes are fantastic! I struggled with fire too, you’re not alone in finding that the hardest I suspect, but you found some really good examples.

  6. Well done as always Leanne – your images are wonderful as always. I also loved your comment about how challenges are meant to make us think – I agree wholeheartedly

    1. Thank you so much Tina. I think I didn’t read the instructions properly, oh well. Yeah, some of these really make me think.

  7. Such a beautiful gallery, Leanne! It’s impossible to pick favorites here. I loved the red colors in the first set. Then, you had air. That was also impressive. On and on, you kept wowing me. Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos.

  8. Leanne, you’ve shown us what one can do when they put their mind to it. You came up with such beautiful images and we got to see more of central Australia. It reminds me of the desolation of parts of the California desert, but we don’t have the red earth.

    1. Thank you Anne, sometimes I just need time to think. You don’t have the red earth? You are lucky really, it gets in everywhere, lol.

  9. The metal photos, especially, are fantastic! The fire photos, too. I think those are my favorites. Good ones, all, Leanne!
