So when I saw what Ann-Christine from Leya had as the challenge I thought, no, my last outing was to the zoo and I already posted all the photos that I wanted to post from there. So I had to have a rethink and try and work out, 1/ if I could do it this week, or 2/ whether to give it a miss.
Then Bushboys World reminded me that maybe I just need to refine the challenge a little to fit me. So that is what I’m doing.
So technically this is not my last outing, but the photos I’m showing are where my next outing will be.
This week I’m supposed to be going out with a friend to Montsalvat. This is a place in Eltham that is meant to be an artist’s colony or something like that. I think it has got very commercial so I am not sure I think of that way. Though, having said that, there are artists that have studios there and work there.
I haven’t been there for quite a number of years. They got very weird about people taking photos. It didn’t seem to matter if you were taking them for yourself or for commercial reasons. If you had a decent camera how could you possibly not be a professional photographer. It was ridiculous. I have heard that they have eased off a bit, so we are going there to take some photos.
So for the challenge this week I am going to show you some photos that were taken back in 2012 of Montsalvat and hope that by next weekend I have some new photos.
It will be interesting to see if I photograph it the same, or if I process them differently.
Thank you Ann-Christine, I’m sorry I couldn’t do exactly what you asked, but I hope you will accept my entry. I would ask you all to go and take a look at her last outing, the link is at the start of the post.
If you would like to participate in this great challenge then go to the following link to find out how to join the Lens-Artists Challenge, click here for more info. Don’t forget to put a link in your post back to the host.
I was rather intrigued by this place and had to look it up. They appear to hold weddings there now and it does look quite commercial. On the plus side it looks like you can take photos.
“General visitors to Montsalvat are welcome to document their visit by taking photos or videos for their own personal use, and no Permit or booking is required for this. Visitors are permitted to use mobile phone cameras or small handheld cameras to take photos for their personal use. ”
Places that ban photography (such as inside a cathedral) without payment really annoy me. I can understand not using a tripod or blocking walkways etc. but for personal use, what’s the problem. It will be interesting to find out what you think of it on your next visit.
You got it right about it being commercial. I often wonder whether the guy that started it for artists would be happen about them trying to make so much money from other artists.
I did contact them about taking photos, though interesting what sort of cameras they say you can use. We are going to try with ours and see if we are allowed to use them. I think we will leave if we can’t.
I know what you mean Jude, it is so appalling, I get that they don’t want people making money from images of places, or using them for commercial reasons, but what about people who just want to take photos for themselves. I went to a place in Tasmania once and asked if I could take photos and they said no, so I said to my friend I don’t want to pay to see this place, so we left.
I guess the thing they miss is that most places I want to visit I do so because I have seen photos that others have taken and it makes me want to see it. Thank you Jude.
I am with Sofia on this. What a place
It is pretty cool, thank you Ritva.
I suspect that people are more tolerant of photographers, especially with all the cell phones that are being used as cameras everywhere. Hopefully your upcoming visit will be productive for your style of photography.
I think sometimes it depends on the camera you are using. I went out in December and was told by two security guards at different places that we couldn’t take photos. My friend said I bet if we were just using our phones it wouldn’t have been an issue. I hope it will be too, it is a good place for photos. Time will tell. Thanks John.
What a cool place that I would go back to, again and again.
That’s the plan Sofia, thank you.
These look wonderfully mysterious, Leanne xx
Thank you Jo.
Gorgeous old buildings and the peacock – Wow!!
Thank you Nora.
Oooh. Excellent! I LOVE those old places. Superb!!!
Thank you John, though it isn’t really that old, I think it was built in 1934, so not even 100 years old yet.
Oh, Leanne – what a clever twist! And the photos reveal what a real wow treat this place is. Love how the light falls through those beautiful windows, and the staircase and stairs are just amazing. The colours. A place I would have loved to visit! But – now I am so looking forward to what and how you will make the next step – and how you will process the new pictures.! Thank you for not giving in but twisting the challenge to your own!
hahaha, I was desperate Ann-Christine. It is quite an amazing place. You’re welcome, thank you for being okay with me making a change.
PS. Loved your title change!
LOL, I had to change it.
Looks like an amazing place Leanne. Definitely worth a revisit! Looking forward to your next set of images.
Thank you Tina, yeah, I am looking forward to getting back.
There are historical buildings in my area that ban cameras. I personally don’t support them if they do. Their choice, my choice. I think it makes no sense.
I don’t get it either, this place doesn’t ban them, but they try and get you to pay for taking photos. It is a shame really. I have walked out of places that have said I can’t take photos. They want everyone to pay for their photos. Thanks Ted.
So beautiful
Thank you Mabel.
it looks like a beauty of place and lucky you captured the peacock ‘in full bloom’
It is a pretty amazing place. Yeah, that was good to get the peacock. I wonder if they are still there. Thank you Beth.
Wow. Great images. Though I was surprised this was in Australia and not medieval Europe. Fascinating place.
Thank you Marie. It is very surprising that it is here. Certainly not something you see much here.
I love this — love your dancing with the challenge theme, and making it your own.
Thank you Penny, yeah, had to be creative with this one.
Wow! I hope your next outing will be as productive and beautiful as these photos here.
Thank you Egidio, I guess time will tell.
These are all great pictures, Leanne. You have a way with architectural elements, and rooms, and buildings, but the details are rendered just fine as well. I also am eager to see what the forthcoming expedition produces.
Thank you Joanne, that’s nice to hear, I love architecture. It will be good to see it again.
That’s a clever get-out clause. You’ll have to show us some before and after shots.
Thank you Margaret, the best I could come up with, lol. I will for sure.
Nice scenes Leanne. Wish you all the best for the next outing
.
Thank you PR, I’m looking forward to it.
Well done n to Brian for suggesting that you looked at this challenge slightly differently. really enjoyed this post and seeing the images of Eltham. look forward to seeing your next clutch of images from there.
Yeah, it was good advice. Thank you Sue, glad you enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see it again. Thank you.
Looking at your pics from last time I’d be really looking forward to a trip back there. I Hope you get the shots you want. I’m looking forward to seeing them
Thank you Steve, I’m looking forward to seeing how it is now.
Leanne, this is so funny, my last outing was to our zoo, and I’ve posted half the pictures already! So, I’m going to post the results of today’s outing to photograph tulips. I think your pictures today are great, and it will be interesting to see what, if anything, has changed. Looking forward to your images.
That is funny Anne, that is good that you have something else to post. I knew I needed some kind of way around it, think creatively, so I hope I did that. Thank you Anne.
