Lens-Artists Challenge #364 – Quiet moment

This week Ritva is asking us “Where is your serene sanctuary?” for this challenge called Quiet moment. I had to keep asking myself that. Is there a place where I feel that serenity or a place of sanctuary?

My only answer was home.

I love being home, and I know that I always feel so out of place when I leave it. That feeling of never quite belonging anywhere. Home is my happy place where I don’t have to watch what I say or wear. I can be me without any care of others. I feel safe here.

Along with that is my garden. I have put so many hours into it, and part of that was so I wouldn’t have to go anywhere to photograph flowers, I could do it all here.

I haven’t got a lot of photos of my garden that show the actual garden as opposed to the flowers. I did find some from many years ago, just after we had a tree cut down, and I had to start over. Neither of those places look like that anymore.

The garden is always evolving and I love going out there to see what I have done now. To see what is flowering now, or getting sidetracked by having to pick the weeds I see. It is a big job and one that brings me great joy.

Perhaps the thing I love is that I finally have my macro garden. No, not a miniature garden, but one that I can get out there with my macro lens and take photos of all the flowers.

I hope you enjoyed seeing where I find peace.

Thank you to Ritva for choosing the challenge and being our host this week. There is a link to her post at the start of this post where you can go and see where her quiet moments are.

  1. I didn’t even need to read beyond your feature. What a fabulous preying mantis to greet us. I am with you on a garden space. It is the best place to let the mind wander, and we can keep tabs on the bloom time. I loved the hyacinth peaking from the bud. So many to love today.

  2. I can so relate to what you say about your home and being yourself. And, love that praying mantis too.

  3. Your garden looks glorious Leanne, and your opener with the little grasshopper peeking over won my heart and I’m sure many others’.

  4. A beautiful and serene sanctuary, Leanne. Great photos and flowers! The praying mantis shot is awesome. It was smiling at you.

    1. Thank you Egidio. I love that praying mantis, I often see them in my garden, but it was the only time I photographed one.

  5. Mine is home as well. I’m retired now but my work had extremely long and demanding hours and I needed a sanctuary where yes, I could just totally relax.

  6. Beautiful images Leanne and you have so many gorgeous flowers in your garden, it feels like a true sanctuary 🩷 xxx

  7. Leanne–your gardens are beautiful! You have given me an idea about what I want to do with the side of my house, so thank you! What are the white hanging flowers in your front garden? I am thinking white wisteria, but not sure.

    1. Thank you Lois. My side garden doesn’t look like that anymore, I planted an ornamental pear tree and I call that part my bit of wilderness now, but glad the photo gave you an idea, I hope you will share it. Yes, that is a white wisteria, sadly I don’t have that anymore either, it was gorgeous, but it was pulling my carport down.

  8. It’s wonderful that your quiet place is your home Leanne. I’m the same even though I don’t garden. Your beautiful garden gives you subjects to photograph your beautiful macro images and the exercise it takes to maintain it.

  9. Leanne, I can relate to home being the place. In my case, home and summer house. Just be, no need to be other than what you are. Perfect. The flowers in your garden are lovely and you always show them in their glory. Loved the header it made me smile from the get go 😀 It is awesome what you have planted there.

    1. Exactly Ritva, it is very perfect. Thank you so much Ritva, that header shot was a great afternoon, we let it go after the photos.
