Lens Artists Photo Challenge #362 – Sports, Sporting Events and Fun Games

I debated a lot with myself whether I would do this challenge this week. I don’t photograph this sort of thing, and I’ve shown so many cycling images, and I’m kind of sick of them. Plus I did photograph a wedding on Saturday, another thing I don’t normally do, so I was very tired when doing this post.

When I thought about what Beth from Wandering Dawgs had set us this week I decided to show some images from one game I photographed back in 2010.

Back then, I was given an opportunity to photograph a professional netball game. I was given accreditation for just one game. It was an amazing experience. Netball is such a fast game when played at that level, and I really struggled following it with the camera. It was probably the hardest sporting event I had ever photographed.

The game was between the Melbourne Vixens and the New Zealand team, the Mystics, or they might be called the Northern Mystics, not totally sure. Both teams played in the ANZ  Championships, and there were many teams from both Australia and New Zealand.

I have a few photos from that game. I have done nothing to the images besides resize them. I have a heap of wedding photos that I need to process now.

I decided in 2012 that I no longer wanted to photograph any sports anymore. It was for personal reasons and I moved onto other things.

I hope you liked these. I hope to show some of the wedding photos at some stage.

Thank you Beth for being our host this week. I hope everyone will go and check out her post, the link is at the start of the post.

    1. That’s for sure Pamela, I love seeing what everyone does, though this week, I haven’t had a chance, I’m so busy with the wedding photos. Thank you.

  1. You captured the action so well and I don’t think the photos need any further editing – you might lose some of the spontaneity and sense of movement!

  2. These are wonderful and crisp action shots! I can imagine how fast you must snap photos of a sporting event when people are moving around. These players have some moves!

  3. Wow, I have never heard of Netball, then this afternoon, I happened upon a YouTube video that mentioned an interesting ending to a Netball game, and now, I’m seeing even more photos about it.

  4. Congratulations for getting great netball photos Leanne. It is so fast paced it would be so hard to do

  5. A perfect subject for the week Leanne, and perfectly captured. This kind of motion is really challenging! Almost as much so as a wedding where the pressure to perform is way too high. Definitely no do-overs!! Well done, thanks for joining the fun this week.

    1. Thank you Tina. With the wedding a lot of pressure, I’ve been on the computer for the last couple of days processing images. Too many to do.

  6. Interesting images, Leanne. Thanks for sharing. When I lived in Oz, Netball was something I just could not get.

  7. Leanne–sports might not be your thing, but these are wonderful! So much motion–they are great!

  8. Leeanne, I’m so glad you decided to use the great action shots for the challenge. Is net ball the same as American basketball? I have a granddaughter that has played basketball for several years. I’ve never been able to get good photos. I guess I’m too busy cheering for her and her team.

    1. Thank you Beth. They are similar but then completely different. With Netball you are only allowed in separate parts of the court which is splil into three. YOu can’t run with the ball and you can’t bounce it, you can only hold it for 3 seconds. YOu can only shoot goals in the goal circle. So there are a lot of differences. I hope that helps.

  9. All I can say, is well done! You have got some action shots here, I especially like that last one
