Looking at the Details around the streets for Lens-Artists Challenge #371

Street photography is not my thing. I have never enjoyed taking photos of people, especially when they don’t realise. So I was a bit apprehensive when I saw the challenge this week set by Ritva, but was pleased when I realised it was about STREET DETAILS, I can do those. More accurately, I have done them in the past.

It wasn’t hard to find photos for this challenge. I have a friend who loves street photography, so I often go with her. She takes what she takes, and I take the details. We never take the same things, so it is interesting to see what she gets and then what I get.

So I look for reflections, doors, things in windows, and people working. Of course, you have to take photos of graffiti. One of the things I like is that you never know what you will find.

There are some people in the gallery, some sneaky ones that I don’t think people realised I was taking. If I am going to take photos of people, that is the type I want to get.

Most of these photos are from Melbourne, except for two from New York. I am sure you can guess one of them.

My offering for this week.

Thank you so much, Ritva, for being our host. It is a great idea for a challenge, and I enjoyed it.

You can go and see her Street Details by looking at her post, the link is at the start of this post. Also, take a look at the tag Lens-Artist in the reader, where you can find lots of other great entries.

  1. You found some good ones, Leanne! The cello, the strawberries and the rusty pipes are my favourites – but…they all are!

  2. I love that you said it’s not knowing what you’ll come across, that just sums it up to me too, Leanne. I really enjoyed your photos with people, the man using his mobile phone is perfection. As are all the other cool details you’ve found.

  3. I enjoyed the variety here. It’s always good to see street art and I love that photo of the man with the cello! I know what you mean about going on a photo outing with a friend and coming back with very different photos, as my husband and I are just like that 😀

  4. Beautiful collection of images, I can relate to the people thing too. I love posting on my blog and my Flickr site, however I always think of who is visible. When at a festival, feels slightly different, however my ethics also pop in there too! You chose some great images for this challenge.

  5. The flower pots was my favourite too. But you took some people too. Liked the one with the workers. People in action….. or in this case…. not in action!

    1. The flowers pots were fun. I will only take photos of people if they don’t realise I’m doing it, sneaky ones. Thank you Geoff.

  6. A fantastic collection, Leanne! I love the shoes, the street art (girl with the cat), and the strawberries. But they are all original. – And I can relate to feeling uncomfortable taking photos of people. As I myself don’t like when strangers take pics of me, I usually try to avoid it as well.

  7. People are cool to shoot when they are unawares, instead of posing. Just seems more like a natural moment. It’s why I don’t watch reality tv shows, whereby all the participants are going to act/react for their viewers’ entertainment. But I do like all your photography.
    Art

    1. I think that is the best way to do it as well Art. I don’t watch reality tv either, it is never really reality. Thank you so much Art, you are too kind.

  8. I really like your take on street photography. There are so many interesting details and found art – plus street art – to take inspiration from. Who needs people?

  9. What a great response Leanne! I love the cell phone image and all your portraits, especially the children sitting with their feet in the water. Very creative!!

  10. Fantastic, Leanne! I really like the flower ‘pots’ going up the pole as well as the last photo. Any idea the story behind all those shoes?

  11. Leanne, I do enjoy the ones from Melbourne, the graffiti are great, I also have bunch of them from when we visited. I like that you got the reflection from the buddle. The man taking a shot with his mobile is great <3 it. the two kids cooling their feet. I have to mention the shoes too. Great post Leanne, I really enjoyed all of them
