Monochrome Madness #16 – Birds

Another theme week and this one is interesting. Elke from Pictures Imperfect Blog has picked the theme for us and it is BIRDS.

I don’t do much bird photography, but I have done some so I have some photos, thankfully.

I think Elke thought it would be hard to work out what would work and what wouldn’t. I have to agree with her. A bird could easily hide in trees with monochrome, so picking the right ones was important.

I decided to pick birds that I have photographed in my local park. They were taken a few years ago, but I think and hope they work well in monochrome, or black and white. I hope you agree.

I would like to thank Elke for being out host this week and setting the theme. I hope she enjoys it too. Please use the link at the beginning of the post to go and check out her post.

Participating in Monochrome Madness

If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then I can use the reader to see what you post.

You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to my monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.

Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. We have also included a list of themes that will be coming in the future so if you want to be able to plan ahead you can. They aren’t in order, but will happen. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.

Also if you would like to host one week or more, let me know.

  1. the cormorant positively glows almost as though you oiled it specially – definitely made for monochrome. I rarely take bird photos though love the subject but a happenstance enabled me to join in

  2. These definitely work in monochrome, particularly that lovely egret and the black swan. I’m away this week so won’t be joining in but I may look out some birds for next week’s theme-free challenge.

  3. A beautiful collage Leanne. I clicked on the link and it takes you to the Elke’s website but not the post.

  4. Oouf … I apologise for being late. I had it all prepared to go nice and early – and then the internet conked out. But here are my birds and I’m excited to see that so many have already participated. Tonight I’ll sit down and take a long look at everybody’s birds. Leanne’s are wonderful, as always, and she took some chances with light and background and pulled it off (nothing else expected!). So: here is the post that should have kicked it all off: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2024/09/04/one-for-the-birds/

    1. Don’t you hate it when that happens. There have been lots of people posting which is great. I’m so sorry that I got the blog wrong, I went on the blog that is used when you comment. I thought it was strange when I went to look that there wasn’t a bird post there. We should have talked about that before hand. I have changed the link now. I see you posted another comment and I will delete that one now, but I will also email you.

  5. hello leanne,

a great selection of birds you have chosen for the challenge i really like them, especially the 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
    many greetings robert

  6. I like these, Leanne–especially photo #2 and 3 of the bird with the long curvy bill. They work great for this challenge.

  7. Nice collection of feathered friends, Leanne. Birds are tricky to capture, as they don’t tend to sit still very long (lol!).

    1. Thank you Sally, we have a pair of black swans that love out local wetlands and often come back to hatch their babies.
