Looks like we are in for a cute week this week as Elke from pictures imperfect blog has decided we should look at PETS in monochrome.
When I was growing up, we had lots of pets. We had dogs, cats, birds, lambs, cows, and horses. So many came into our lives and then left. However, as an adults, we have only had cats. There is a reason for that. We knew our youngest daughter would want a pet, so we had to work out what would be the best pet for us. We knew it needed to be one that would tell us it was hungry, or we would forget to feed it. We knew that it had to be something that didn’t need a lot from us, and really, the only choice left was a cat.
We’ve had 4 so far, and it turns out they were good choices. Cats let you know when they are hungry. I get taps from one of them. They are independent and clean themselves. Plus, we love them. We only have 2 now, courtesy of our eldest daughter. They make life a little more interesting. Cats can be so funny.
I have a gallery of Ralph and Susie now. Funny Susie is a black and white cat so it was a great challenge for her.
Thank you, Elke, for being our host this week. Please, everyone, go and see her post. The link is at the beginning of the post.

I adore cats! 😊
Me too, they are such funny creatures. 😸😽
Oh I like the potted Ralph; he fits perfectly! Susie looks as if she is wearing a false beard, trying on a Santa disguise. So cute!
Thank you Elke, he would have liked the pot to be bigger so he could lie in it. lol. We always think Susie has a mane like you see on a lion. So funny watching her trying to wash it, we have to pull it out of her mouth.
😸
😽😸
Your cats are both beautiful and also beautifully photographed!
That’s nice of you to say Sarah, all candid shots. Thank you.

A good gathering of cats Leanne. The saucepan sitting is so funny
Thank you Brian, the saucepan was so funny and he was trying to work out how to lie in, couldn’t he is too big.
I love this post of your cats!! They’re adorable. You did get the best kind of pet for your daughters.
Thank you Esther. I think they are too, and yeah, they have been perfect for us.
what a cutie and so hard to go wrong with pets
Thank you Beth, very true.
cat are lovely creatures 😀 and very expressive too.
They are, they get heaps of crap, but they are so funny. Thank you Ritva.
I love your cats, and yes, my reasoning about the choice of pets is not that much different.
My post is here: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2025/09/02/cats-and-dogs-and-birds/
Thank you Elke.
Ralph and Susie–I love those names. Sounds like a couple of next-door neighbors. Susie is a beatiful girl. And Ralph sitting in the pot….so cat-like. 😹He is adorable.
I have to admit I don’t really like the names, but they are the names they came with so they have stuck. hahaha, They are lovely cats, Ralph and that pot was so funny he really tried to make it work, but he couldn’t lie in it. Thank you Lois.
Susie is a beautiful cat. Gem was black and very hard to photograph. He died this year and we do miss having a dog around.
She is gorgious and very sweet, sorry to hear about your dog, maybe you need another one. Thank you Anne.
What delightful companions your pets seem to be.
They are, thank you Margaret.
