Since I’ve been looking back at 2012 and 2013, I decided to look for more photos that I could convert for today’s Monochrome Madness. I found 5 images. Sadly, it seems I have deleted a lot of photos or raw images from that time. I’m such an idiot sometimes doing that. I need to make sure I keep the raw ones, maybe just get rid of copies, or similar ones. I don’t know.
As always I find it an interesting experience to try converting images to monochrome. There were at least two, maybe 3, that didn’t make the cut because they just didn’t translate well. They lost something, or a lot of everything. So I had to skip those. I do know that a good monochrome image has a lot of contrast, so that is what I try to find.
There is something about the coast and monochrome, don’t you think? Water, waves and clouds, perfect for conversion. Well, most of the time.
These are all from 2013 and are from various trips to the coast. We have Cape Schanck, 12 Apostles, Clifton Springs, Barwon Heads and I’m not sure where the last one was taken.
I hope you like them.
Next week is another theme and I will your host. I had this idea a while back to try using one image and cropping it three different ways. So my theme is ONE IMAGE CROPPED 3 WAYS. Hopefully people will find it interesting.
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then we can all use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to the host’s monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
These are all very dramatic. The dark skies add to the emotion created by the monochrome effect.
Thank you Marsha, just how I like them, dramatic.
I am guessing that this week has no theme? As my Wordless Wednesday photo just happens to be in black and white I thought I would join in with you this week. And like you it is all about a beach! Love your decaying pier posts and the very dramatic skies.

That’s right Jude, it is a free week, no theme. great that you joined us. I am behind and will check it out soon. Thank you.
These scenes work so well in monochrome. It emphasises the drama of the sea in all its moods. Here’s mine this week. I don’t often translate colour to monochrome, preferring to take shots in mono in the first place if I want a B/W version. But here we go … https://margaret21.com/2025/03/12/spring-in-glorious-technicolor-or-muted-monochrome/
Thank you Margaret. I am running behind a lot, will look tomorrow.

Thank you Beth, the old remains of a pier.
ah!

When I first started taking digital photos I delected quite rigorously not so perfect photos or almost duplicates. Until my nephew asked: “Why? It’s not like it’s a storage problem, not with digital photos.” He was right. Now I keep almost everything. I’m fastidious about tagging so I don’t have to wade through hundreds or possibly thousdands of photos when I look for something.
I like the play of light and darkness in your photos, particularly the first one. Monochrome master!
It turned out to be a storage problem for me unfortunately. My husband initially refused to get me more, but I have a lot now. It isn’t always great deleting.
Thank you Elke, I love playing with light.
Amazing monochrome
Thank you Joke.
I loved all of them Leanne. So dark and moody.
Just how I like them, thank you Anne.
Wow. These monochrome images are all great. Images 41 and 43 are especially stunning.
Thank you Joanne, coastal images are so good for monochrome.
