Time-lapse results from last week – work in progress

In my post last Friday I said I had been out to do some time-lapse photography while I was sick. It wasn’t a good move, but it was good to get a chance to try some things.

Firstly, I am starting to feel a lot better. I still have the cough, but it isn’t as bad as it was. I think it is safe to say I am on the mend, thank  goodness. Thank you everyone for you get well wishes.

I have been experimenting with doing time-lapses at sunrise, but the dark to light is very hard to do. I tried using manual but I think I might need to either try more or do something else. I don’t really like the final result in this video.

I also got out my Syrp Genie Mini and used it for some panning. I haven’t used it much because it was a pain to use if you couldn’t get it level. I ended up with a lot of time-lapses going uphill or downhill. Then about a year ago I got the 3 Legged Thing levelling base. You put it under the ball head and then you can level the camera. It is great for the Genie Mini because then I can put it all together and make sure it is level. I did a couple of the following video so you can see. I hope you think they are level.

I thought I would stop using the Genie mini but with the levelling base and how easy it was to set up, I know I’m going to use it more. I think the trick will be not using it too much. We will see how I go with that.

I’m not sure if I mentioned with the last time-lapse that I did of the city, but I did it with my Nikon D850. I have heard the Fujifilm X-T3 produces lots of flickering with time-lapse, though I might have to try it and see. My X-S10 was doing some strange things the last time I used it for time-lapse as well. It would be fine for about 20 images, then one image would be totally blown out and the rest would be too light. It meant I had to delete one photo from the mix and then try and match up the rest. It was a bit annoying. No idea what the problem was.

I did read that the Nikon camera is the best for time-lapse so I have dusted it off and have quite enjoying using it again. I also had to find everything for it as well. I have no idea where some of my batteries were. Still don’t. Then I was worried about the storage with it. It uses XQD cards and they are expensive to buy. I have two, but just a 64GB and a 128GB. It seemed fine for the trip to the city, so I should be fine with that.

So here is the video of what I took last week. It is a work in progress and I plan on taking a lot more around here to put together a longer video. Not sure how it will look at this stage, but ideas are going off in my head. This is unlisted on YouTube so you can only look at it with this video here. I hope you like the start I have so far.

    1. Thanks, Leanne, it’s 12:45am Monday and the wind is blasting out. About six hours after the weather service said it would. Not nearly as much as was expected.

    1. Thank you Anne, I am very determined, I like this sort of time-lapse, so I really want to make them better. I can see they wouldn’t be for everyone, but I love the challenge. Very time consuming though.
